Just embarrassingly wondered how many quarters in a hockey game.

Zoom ahead less than a decade and bathouses became a major location for HIV/AIDS prevention education. Anti-sex and anti-safe-space puritanism has a terrible cost whatever the decade. Lives ruined needlessly.
Happy 45 anniversary of the Toronto bathhouse raids to all who celebrate.

Our current police chief was one of the officers behind the 2000 "Pussy Palace" lesbian bathhouse raid. History is not so old.
What were the Toronto bathhouse raids? City marks 45th anniversary of dark spot in its history
The raids on Feb. 5, 1981 were, at the time, the largest mass arrest in Toronto history. Police finally apologized in 2016.

York University Libraries is hiring a knowledge synthesis librarian. Likely an interesting time for taking on this position with a medical school opening on the horizon. Plus you would get to listen to me blather on about collection development.

A friend asked me yesterday if I was interested in seeing Guns N' Roses with Public Enemy in August. I'd gladly see either band but am out of town. But it seems like a strange pairing. And how is Public Enemy an opener? It's all a bit weird, right?

"Infinite Jest" endures as my biggest reading defeat. However, I do think his essay "Shipping Out" is one of the best and most entertaining things on the cruise industry I've read. Suspect nothing has improved in the 30 years since it was published in "Harper's Magazine". harpers.org/wp-content/u...

Two-day wrap on attending #olasc. Saw some thought provoking sessions. Made a painfully half-baked comment in a packed talk. Impressed by new grad lightning talks; I’d never get hired today with that competition.

I’ve always thought Bitches Brew might be his most terrifying piece of music but turns out I might be wrong. Rate X is a contender. Plus those glasses are A+.

Spotted in library acquisitions yesterday and destined for York University’s Markham Campus Library. Good to supplement course readings with something a little racy. Or maybe they are course readings!

Art galleries have been one avenue for re-centring and finding calm, humanity and a bit of cheer in these bleak days.

This show of 3 large sculptural works recently opened at the AGO: ago.ca/exhibitions/.... I saw it on Saturday and it's definitely worth seeing.

Walking a dog, you notice how many people randomly discard chicken bones on the sidewalk. What kind of person does that? Do people decide one day "My public persona is now disgusting"?

May be record length: the tip of Point Pelee extends far into Lake Erie. Almost at the end and looking back towards the park proper. I might be breaching US waters sans passport. Only ICE spotted of h2o variety.

The chief scandal of some big academic publisher profit margins is we end up forced to nickle-and-dime good quality independent publishing. Dysfunctional in several respects. Hats off to Australian/New Zealand librarians for helping hold the line. researchwhisperer.org/2025/11/25/l...

Heard about 2 hours ago while walking to lunch on campus, in a kind of blasé voice: "yeah, I think communism is okay, but I like capitalism better." It's got me asking myself some questions.

I’ve been corrected. It’s a state memorial service. Her funeral was in the UK.
Saw Olivia Chow and John Tory en route to Hilary Weston’s funeral at St Paul’s on Bloor. Hope there’s no fisticuffs. Big procession with mounted unit and marching band along Bloor. I went to Loblaws and bought a lime and a tomato, which is how I choose to mourn.
