This Labour government are (frustratingly) making my work more and more relevant every week. Five years ago, I argued that temporary protection policies for refugees are grossly unjust, and here we are making things worse for them again.

A really sobering story about how vulnerable UK universities are to intimidation to get them to abandon human rights research. Claims by China in this report of inadequate "fact checking" should always be accompanied by mention of their exclusions from Xinjiang:

It’s a competitive field out there… these stats are on the discouraging side.
After submitting a FOIA request UKRI, I obtained success rates by three grant call scheme and I can only say that I am disheartened by the results:

- AHRC Responsive Mode 2025: 2%
- ESRC New Investigator Grant 2025: 1%
- ESRC Research Grant Round 2025: 1%

Given the monumental waste of resources that this nonsense costs #HEIs in the UK, whilst #Universities are already under massive cost pressures, it should be abandoned altogether!

Disappointed to hear this has been said by the PM.
Tragic to hear the UK PM Keir Starmer say that immigration is turning the UK into "an island of strangers."

What a narrow, nasty, pessimistic view of the people of the UK. People who have made the UK their home from around the world include my friends & neighbours & are not strangers.
