My father in 1945. In Naval Intelligence, he was in charge of the French coast, locking the D-Day invasion plans up the night before, had survived a plane crash in the Libyan desert, being bombed out of a Cairo hospital & was the first person Ian Fleming asked to join the Commandos. #remembranceday

Wolf was splashing happily in a very hot mustard bath in front of the parlour fire. Old Fox had installed a lovely bathroom upstairs a number of years ago, but Wolf much preferred an old-fashioned affair where one's wallowing was by candlelight and the peaceful hiss and crackle of the hearth.

OK, one, there is a reason to go to wartime footing, and that is war. I get that he is excited about war but that doesn't mean there is one.

Two, we get it: you heard someone say FAFO and thought it was cool. It is not actually cool. Maybe you should say we will get 67 drones or something?

July 1739: the General Evening Post reports the death of Mr Kent, holder of the office of chimney sweeper to the king's palaces 'a place of considerable profit'. He is succeeded in the post by a Mr Fatt. Both are described as being Black, so presumably of African heritage.

Here at the House of Lords (1715-90) section of the History of Parliament, we are currently working on William Montagu, 2nd duke of Manchester, who was Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard (1737-39), so would have been very familiar with this exercise.

The Fox of Greenwich Village leapt out of bed that morning and rushed to buy three different newspapers. "Keep the change!" he beamed at the seller, and as he jay-walked across to his usual coffee shop, he whistled a merry tune. Inside was steamy and smoky and very busy with a hum of conversation & breakfast orders. His professor friend from NYU, an elderly badger with waxed whiskers, was sitting by the window and he waved at him and squeezed in opposite. "What a morning! What a morning!" said the Fox. "What a morning, indeed!" said the Professor, "The beacon is lit and it is blazing! It gleams o'er sea and land, my friend, o'er sea and land!"
