Adding high-intensity interval training (HIIT) cycling (vs a sham cycling condition) to 6 weeks of conventional physiotherapy was more effective in improving exercise capacity, walking ability, & the level of disability in individuals with acute #stroke. 🧠🔄 🧠📈 🧪

Authors examined how varying temporal parameters of vagus nerve stimulation (frequency & pulse distribution) impacts the magnitude of VNS-directed plasticity. Moderate pulse frequencies were more effective than burst or distributed stimulation patterns. 🧠🔄 🧠📈 🧪

People w/ #Parkinsons had ⬆️ BDNF & ⬆️ motor function after 12 weeks of moderate-intensity aerobic interval training. Correlations between BDNF, cortical activity & dopaminergic neuron function provide insight on potential mechanisms of neuroplastic effects. 🧠🔄 🧠📈

Perceived cognitive workload & time to do a sustained visual attention task were ⬆️ in those with lasting symptoms after mild TBI. Perceived cognitive workload was linked to symptom severity & mental fatigue & could be a marker of ongoing issues & a rehab target.

Authors examined if phase synchrony index (PSI) from resting-state EEG could predict aphasia recovery after #stroke. PSI, particularly inter-temporal PSI, may reflect recovery-related changes in networks post-stroke and could be a biomarker of aphasia recovery.

Authors found gait responses to internal & external cues were similar across #Parkinsons disease stages. Certain cues improved specific gait features, & cues could be personalized based on deficits. Multiple brain regions may contribute to gait responses to cues.

Tracking activity gives insights on recovery & treatments effects. Authors found it's feasible to measure energy expenditure via wearable sensors in cervical spinal cord injury, sensor-derived metrics are clinically relevant, & metrics change w/ treatment. 🧠🔄 🧠📈

Authors saw no difference in corticospinal excitability (CSE) between #stroke participants who did 12 wks of HIIT or MICT exercise. Combining data across groups showed exercise may increase ipsilateral CSE excitability & reduce interhemispheric imbalances. 🧠🔄 🧠📈
