I guess if I wanted, I could get five people to sign up for D&D beyond and wrangle with an app they'd never used just for a one-shot.
But that seemed more complicated than just giving them a slightly modified monster statblock with all their items and spells written out

If you're wearing heavy armour, where's the space on the sheet to note the disadvantage on stealth? Or what weapon masteries mean?

Even just looking at their starting equipment and writing out what it does led to weird discoveries.
Apparently most 5E starting kits are loaded up on lamps and oil, biasing the whole party towards fire damage regardless of class. Lamps which are redundant half the time due to dark vision.

I ran a one shot over the holidays with first time players, and ran into the same thing. I ended up making my own character sheets for the pregens I wanted to give them that vastly simplified things.
One of the first time players still mentioned finding it intimidating.

It's almost like Lex doesn't just want Superman dead, he wants spiteful vindication from the world that he's doing the right thing in killing him.
