A model for detecting LLM generated text is under review at #ICLR2026. The website using this model detects one of the reviews for this paper as LLM generated ...

(As an aside, it looks like the model EditLens that is used for these scores is itself under review at ICLR and classifies one of its reviews as 100% AI which makes the whole thing very meta)

This is a fantastic article about James Watson but mostly it’s master class in dispatching of ghouls in science. Often the problem isn’t just that they’re amoral but that their being a(im)moral makes them dangerously wrong in ways that have cascading externalities on our understanding.

If women are underrepresented in STEM, it's at least partly because men like this offer mentoring, then embarrass themselves by assuming their mentees must be into them, then decide the best solution is to cut ties, which sends the signal to other faculty that the mentee must not be good enough.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

What usually gets lost in the focus on what an evil racist James Watson was is just how colossal of a dumbass he was and just how far he set the field back.

But @sramach.bsky.social and @cbo.bsky.social kept their eye on the ball.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

This is such a polite way of saying it too because it was unhinged and virulent racism and sexism not chewing with his mouth open — and standardly not "a discovery he made". Women are so gracious to a pure hater, liar, and abuser even in death.

Sorry we had to endure him.
I met James Watson at a local conference in graduate school.

Watson apparently “over-learned that his bad manners were tolerated because of the greatness of the discovery he had made.”

Kindness is a legacy that he failed to leave.
