I am a figurative watercolorist, which means I make watercolor art featuring the human body. This is a deeply personal spiritual practice for me.

I love it when people can hold a large body of my work in their hands. I think my hardcover art book is the second best thing to owning original paintings. Plus, a book is a nice alternative for those who love nude art but are not ready to display it on their walls.

Nothing like a good book.

This is my favorite Norman Lindsay painting. I wish there was a way to buy an official reproduction print.

The @hardcoverart.com book campaign is in the final hours.
Here is a tiny peek at my watercolor art in the #hardcover2025 book. The theme is “retro”, which will make sense when you see the rest of the painting.

Culture might seem a less consequential right than due process or free assembly. Its infringement by the US government makes less spectacular news than police action or protests. In this way, the repeal of a right that took decades to build is at risk of going unreported.
How to Protect Your Right to Culture
The United States government’s coordinated repeal of the right to culture has grave consequences for the texture of our daily lives. But there are ways to fight back.

What do you think of the analysis in this article?

I like this quote from one of the commenters:

“It almost goes without saying that I also strongly support Yuskavage’s, and indeed any creative’s, right to put anything out there they want.”
We’re not suggesting that Lisa Yuskavage’s imaginary women have it easy. But when you call a portrait of a conventionally attractive woman pulling up her top transgressive, where does that leave people who are stigmatized rather than celebrated as transgressive?
Lisa Yuskavage’s White Hot Women
Often considered provocative, her nude women embody a patriarchal status quo of feminine desirability, and the privileges that come with it.

“The [human] body in art can be a potent symbol of resilience and vulnerability, reminding the community what they are fighting for against a dehumanizing system.”

I do art shows with pretty niche work that doesn’t really make much money; only a small number of people connect with it. But honestly, I don’t make art for mass appeal or the money (although money is required to keep going). I do it because I love the conversations, the energy, the connection.
