#FreeFantasyArt Today's saturday, so it's an edit I made

Starting with the black-and-white piece of line-art that I decided to throw myself at.

From pencil to color, it's all done by hand. Here is under a timelapse of my recent comic strip: two days of work in 30s. I use Krita to bring my art to life, on Debian, one stroke at a time.

Another piece of #art from a creative commons game project - in this case, a project that released everything into the commons when they could no longer support servers.

One thing that I do with my edits that not a lot of people do with their art is that I release my working files alongside them. I fully understand why this is a lot more effort - and honestly, it can feel like showing off unfinished sloppy work - but I really appreciate that today's artist does.🧵

The hobbling of the public domain is just so frustrating - as the world changes faster, we live in a world where copyright lasts longer than ever - and not just new copyrights, but retroactively applied to every work of art, every piece of creativity, to ensure corporate ownership of culture.
Cartoons that should’ve entered public domain in 2026 (but didn’t)
A look at what cartoons from 1969 should’ve entered public domain in 2026, but didn’t, thanks to retroactive copyright extensions.

This post was meant to go up yesterday, as it's one of my saturday edits, but I was too angry to focus on image editing, so it's going up today instead - I'll still have a regular post of fantasy art today as well [probably tomorrow at this point] but first yesterday's post.

Within Matlaktlome food is rarely an issue outside the cities - the rainforest is well managed by its inhabitants, who ensure that there is always food within reach for those in tune with nature; and troop deployments are generally too small-scale to stretch those resources.🧵
#JanuaryWorldbuilders! Today's military/warfare related Q: How does your world's military handle food and medical care for its soldiers? Do they have MREs, or the medieval equivalent? Supply lines? Foraging off the land? What kind of skills do the medics have?

Another excellent person releasing excellent #art for everyone, especially useful to #ttrpg writers. Thank you Ari for sharing your creativity!

I particularly appreciate the blind-in-one-eye look on one of the characters - I've been thinking about the need for more disability in fantasy art.
Reworked two more portraits to set up for free <3
Check them out on my pages!
More varied stuff coming soon, working on a Healing Potion variant rules and lore!

There are two main wars:
1] Matlatktlome is under invasion by the Tetocani who serve under the Broodmother. They believe non-hive creatures are lesser, and need to be ruled by Queens.
The protagonists are not currently involved in this war, although they've met rogue Tetocani.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders We talked about weapons and armor, now for the wars. This week's worldbuilding questions are about your fictional world's wars and militaries. Today's Q: Are there any current wars in your WIP and is your MC involved?

Outside of The City [Altepetl] and the Graven Court proper, anyone can carry any weapon they choose anywhere they wish - because to ban doing so would be to restrict who can travel across the land.
Within those, there are regions where long arms are restricted.🧵
Good morning, #JanuaryWorldbuilders! What kind of laws exist regarding the use of weapons in your world? Can anyone use or carry them? Are they usable only by a certain class? Or only after you've been trained in its use? Are some weapons banned entirely?

Yesterday a fellow @uktin.bsky.social member posted a reminder up about her free releases, so I feel like it's only appropriate that I make that today's spotlight
Ramona, AKA Alderdoodle, has released a lot of useful spot art and borders - things that aren't make to stand alone but rather to🧵
Psst. Hey you. There's free stuff in my ko-fi library for you to use in your projects - even commercial ones.

In Matlaktlome, the most common are knives, clubs and spears - simple to make, easy to replace, and easy to learn.
Axes and machete are also reasonably common, being tools that can be viciously effective in combat.
More advanced weapons are generally swords or macuahuitl.🧵
Hey there, #JanuaryWorldbuilders! Yesterday I asked about ranged weapons, so today is for melee/close-range weapons! Whacha got for me? Are people using swords and maces? Got any cool polearms? Or are your characters conducting business with their fists, teeth, and claws?

Atl-Atl type spear-throwers are most common, followed by slings, but while they're a bit rarer bows are a known quantity and are hardly in short supply - just not as ubiquitous as they might be if moisture weren't a constant variable.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders. What kind of long-range weapons are used in your world? Do they have bows? Longbows? Slingshots or darts? Or is this an age of guns, spaceships, and rockets?

#FreeFantasyArt day 25 [A little post-midnight, because I took a nap]
If you've been following this, or scrolling through from the start of it, you may have noticed that I'm very reluctant to post old public domain images. There are two reasons for this: Firstly, other people have done better lists🧵

Most armour is very light, thin leathers and magically hardened plant matter. Metal is rare, and also uncomfortable enough that it requires layers of padding underneath which will cause overheating.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders Heya! I can't let it ONLY be weapon talk this week! What kind of armor do your characters wear? Or what kind generally is made in your world? What material is it made from?

#JanuaryWorldbuilders
Primary current antagonist is a ritualist/thief/assassin who runs an organisation of demon-summoning bandits. So a ritual dagger is his main weapon, but in a fight he's more likely to use magic.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders. We talked about the MC (or another important character) yesterday. This time: what about their opposite? A villain? A foil? Someone else of importance in the story or lore? What weapon does that character use?
January 18, 2026 at 5:08 PM
#JanuaryWorldbuilders There's nothing I've really come up with so far, but ALL my settings do contain one weapon [although it's /probably/ not literally transdimensional]

Fate-Cutter is a bladed weapon, generally sword, that cuts the strings of fate - rendering prophecies inaccurate and geasa moot.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders, do you have any magical or otherwise special/important weapons or armor in your world? What do they do? Is there lore or a story behind how they came to be? Has is always been special or was it made that way through some critical event?
