I'm in Europe but feel that this visual message needs spreading... so just ordered a bunch of these buttons and stickers for passing around. Take a look at their website for more positive thoughts to wear and share!

Very interesting video on an artist I was not previously aware of. Her brushstrokes have wonderful detail - as do those of my favourite abstract painter Sean Scully when viewed in the real - and in a way similar to some portrait works by John Bratby... i.e. full of passion!

An entry for the popular #BlueSkyMonday theme...

#BlueSkyMonday #Art #Artwork #Collage #ZigZag
One of my several complicated collages composed of overlapping zig-zag angled shapes of blue cartridge papers. The original idea for the angled shapes is based on the fortified walls of the 17th century French military engineer General Vauban.

Concentrating on a 1,000-piece jig-saw for three evenings (after dinner and wine, of course) is a mentally interesting way of viewing a famous painting, and especially all its many, many fine details... now to shop for another Bruegel, or an equally challenging Bosch!

#Art #Jigsaw #BruegelTheElder
"The Fall of the Rebel Angels" is an oil painting by Renaissance artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder made in 1562. This 1000-piece jig-saw completed last evening shows a different take to my 'gold' post three days ago of the Angel slaying Lucifer statue on a church in Vienna.

It has been dubbed one of the world's rarest treasure troves of art. For decades, masterpieces by the likes of Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock have been kept in the basement of a museum in Iran's capital Tehran, shrouded in mystery.

I'm reminded of the "From today, painting is dead," quote by the French academic painter Paul Delaroche after he viewed a daguerreotype (photograph) for the first time. Will painting survive the threat of AI this time?
Thousands call on Christie’s to cancel AI art auction in open letter

The sale has sparked backlash from critics who say AI programmes exploit human artists

Posted earlier in my photography stream as an interpretation of a film title, which is this week's 'Alphabet Challenge'. Nevertheless, it is an example of my past decade of collage work in notebooks... now numbering 26, and on-going!

"The Towering Inferno" - a 1974 American disaster film directed by John Guillermin and produced by Irwin Allen, featuring an ensemble cast led by Paul Newman and Steve McQueen.

The image is one of my more than a thousand abstract collage exercises!

Alex Katz (b.1927) an American figurative artist known for his large paintings, divided into portraiture and landscape, whose bold simplicity and heightened colors are considered as precursors to Pop Art. His works seem simple, but according to Katz they are more reductive.

The Musée Marmottan Monet in the Paris 16th is always a great gallery to visit not least for the permanent Monet collection downstairs. In 2023 the presentation of works by 100 different artists was extraordinary... such detailed work close-up was eye-opening!

Hung this painting in my bedroom office recently to try to warm-up the plain grey wall. It felt odd at first that having painted it seven years ago - doesn't time fly - I hadn't hung it for more than three years... but I'm pleased to see it again.

This morning, as a weak sun penetrated the fog, a strange reflection appeared in my bedroom office cast, I discovered, by a slightly bent sheet of cellophane on my worktop. The artwork is "Shibuya Crossing No.1" a 115 x 75 cm abstract acrylic.

I don't often express myself with "en plein air" artwork although on three occasions I did try at friend's garden table with my bits and pieces to create a pencil drawing, a water-colour and a collage of a group of buildings in a local town.

This huge exhibition changed how I looked at and thought about art... 'modern' became my thing and I have remained that way for the past sixty years. I even used Letraset to add my name and date of visit in a more 'brut' style than my hand-writing.
