Last month, Syracuse University's South Asia Center invited founding Armory Square Prize jury member @shreedaisy.bsky.social to lead a workshop on translation's role in teaching and researching South Asia and other parts of the world. She had to stop by historic Armory Square while she was in town!

Meet 2025 Armory Square Prize shortlist translator Ciara Mandulee Mendis. A Sri Lankan writer who has won multiple awards, including the State Literary Award, her work appears in several international journals. She translates into and out of both Sinhala and English. Congrats!

Meet 2025 Armory Square Prize shortlist translator Subhashree Beeman. A translator working from Tamil and French into English, she is winner of the 2024 PEN/Heim Translation Grant and 2024 SALT/ALTA Emerging Literary Translation Mentorship. Her entry earned Special Mention from our jury. Congrats!

Meet 2025 Armory Square Prize shortlist translator Sumathy Sivamohan. She is Professor in English at the University of Peradeniya and an acclaimed film maker, dramatist, performer, poet and translator. In 2011, she received the Premchand Fellowship from the Sahithya Akademi of India. Congrats!

Meet 2025 Armory Square Prize shortlist translator Punarvasu Joshi. A nanotechnology researcher turned translator, he has translated 40 Hindi short stories for a 2-volume anthology titled ‘A Journey In Time.' His recent translation is the novel ‘The Madhouse,’ which came out in January. Congrats!
