WTF. This is HORRENDOUS news, and horribly misguided.

Clinical science is science.
Announcing such a major change to NSF GRFP this late in the cycle is incredibly cruel. 2nd yr students (mine included) have been working so hard on their proposals despite ongoing uncertainty. They are driven and passionate about being outstanding scientists and helping those coming up behind them.

Wow… the explicit exclusion of clinical psych after people have already been working so hard on their applicants is awful. Anyone in/applying to clinical psych programs still planning to apply this year?

Thanks to @theresagaff.bsky.social for highlighting the devastating impact that terminated #eatingdisorder grants will have on Americans - including our work on LGBTQ-affirmative therapy for EDs @ajblashill.bsky.social
Eating disorders are among the deadliest mental health conditions & they often become chronic.

Yet Trump’s HHS is cutting eating disorder research & the MAHA report doesn’t mention them.

This isn’t just suppressing science - it’s a decision that will cost lives.

Eating disorder research defunded despite MAHA focus on chronic conditions
Experts on eating disorders like anorexia worry that research funding cuts mean patients won't get the care they need.

Seeking eating disorder book recs! 📚

I’m interested in books that take an intersectional or structural view of EDs and treatment systems. For example, I’ll be rereading Famished: Eating Disorders and Failed Care in America by Rebecca Lester which I loved.

Anyone read A Hunger So Wide and So Deep?

PSA to deactivate your X account if you haven’t already!!

Any advice on how to deal with this ridiculousness from X? My account got hacked 2 months ago and I’ve tried multiple routes to regain access and deactivate it.

An important point getting overlooked:

When NIH cancels "diversity" grants (e.g., diversity supplements, Fs, Ks, etc), they aren't canceling the grants based on *what* the grant studies.

They're cancelling them based on *who* is doing the research. And that disallowed "who" is anyone not white.

BREAKING: We're suing the National Institutes of Health over their politically-motivated purge of research grants.

This is an unlawful attack on scientific progress that puts lives at risk.

Education and intellectual debate are deeply held Jewish values. Coming after universities in the guise of fighting antisemitism is NOT consistent with Jewish values. It’s a thinly veiled attempt of this fascist admin to stifle the free discourse that counters their disinformation. #JewsforHigherEd

We (almost all American Jews) didn't ask for this and we see the long term damage it will do to both higher education and us.

As a professor & a Jew I’m sick to my heart about the attack on Columbia—which is a) escalation of the war on all of higher ed; b) Jew-washing fascism, with the intention of inciting more antisemitism, which in turn will be used as cover for more fascism.

March 7, 2025 at 8:09 PM
13 years ago today, I presented my first scientific poster. 2 years later, I experienced a mental health crisis. Today, I am still a scientist. My research is on youth mental health. I #standupforscience because we need to do this research, and we especially need to help our most marginalized youth.
