getting the feeling that the average peak of podcasting is over (again)

it's different for each podcast but it takes basically a few years to go through all of your best guests and their signature moves

at which point you're recycling guests and opting for subpar ones to fill the regular slots

LLMs have changed me

when finding typos, I used to think "somebody didn't carefully reread what they wrote"

now I think "holy shit this was still written by a human" 🙃

I hope we never get to a point where even typos are believably automated at scale

I keep seeing "formerly known as twitter"

is it actually "formerly" if it still continues to be known as twitter?
more aka than fka in practice

also "formerly self-identified as twitter" would be more accurate

wondering if the "3.5% nonviolent protest" writing is a psyop and/or has rotted a bunch of people's brains

the point of a protest is an implied threat to escalate

if you don't get what you want from protests alone, there has to be follow-up or future threats will get increasingly ignored

it just struck me how deeply weird this is

a machine is "telling" me using hardcoded text that it's "verifying" *I'm* human

your access is limited to my browser. I can even be away from the computer while this is going on. you don't know me. you're a machine. you can't "know" anything. shut up.

is "recession indicator" a recession indicator? :)

now thinking about what happens when everything stops going up in aggregate

I've seen many local banks doing a collab ad for stock gambling in state news media last year (seems at least unethical if not illegal) so they seem to be concerned about this as well
was wondering recently if the reason nvidia stock isn't going up anymore is actually because everyone and their cat already holds a share

so for the price to go up, someone would have to sell their existing share and buy back in at a higher price

something I've realized about the LLM-based startups

since all the LLM-based startups are sending all their plain-text prompts to an API made by one of the huge companies

if there was a trillion+ $ idea - they'd know about it

so not only does OpenAI have nothing, none of their clients do either

www.asktheeu.org/request/task... (EASE 2024 6980.pdf)

this is dumb and makes a mockery out of disclosure

the entire reason for FOI is to understand the decision making process and the inputs that led to it

whole slides have been redacted even in simplified internal presentations (Document 7.pdf)

been seeing some wealth tax hype on twitter

I have (for now at least) one problem with wealth tax - the tax goes to where the owners are

so while it addresses inequality within a city, it does nothing to address inequality across countries, esp. between the owner and the user of an online business

probably not an original thought post-idiocracy (the movie) but things have happened since then

considering that literacy levels are going down + long copyright terms, could some future archivists be illiterate too?

much of writing-based art depends on a high degree of literacy to understand

been thinking a bit more on what it means to be an "investor"
I find it extremely weird that two groups of people acting differently are conflated:
- buy a thing and hope it becomes more expensive
- prepare a contract with defined fallbacks on what you'll retain if a venture you paid for fails

bluray movies are surprisingly difficult to just play on a PC

it seems to require a rarely available reader, VLC, third party libraries and a key DB

seems there's room for massive improvements on every front (but the ownership part is non-negotiable)

can't wait for gambling fiends to start scaling walls, picking locks, climbing rooftops and blowing air onto thermometers to win their silly bets

anyone care to make a meta-bet on how much they end up costing the public in thermometer security guard salaries worldwide until 2030? 😂
