Reddit is basically the new Usenet- groups for basically any subject you may or may not think of where your personal experience is heavily defined by the group culture and moderation.

I never read Slate that much, but one thing I sorely miss is Joshua Keating's "If It Happened There" series- It took some real art and talent with satire to do that and I think that, however much respect it got, it wasn't enough.
