If you're stuck on a name for a fantasy character but have a modern one that would be okay, try changing the first letter. It's amazing how much emphasis our brains put on the first letter of words. I bet you didn't realize Eragon is Dragon with one letter changed, at first.

If you want to study pacing, look at the horror genre. If something is going wrong with the pacing there, you can tell immediately and generally what it is. This is a genre that exists on its build ups and pay offs more than any other and I highly recommend that delve.

My little one's second birthday. It feels so strange that it's been that long already. It feels like he should still be small enough to take a nap in the crook of one of my legs while I'm running dungeons. But he's got stompy little feet and a defiant little shout and I could not be prouder.
