Good morning Bluesky! I lead the microbiological risk assessment team at the UK's Food Standards Agency, a non-ministerial department (yes, despite the name) with responsibility for making sure food is safe in England, Wales and NI (Scotland is Food Standards Scotland, who we work closely with).

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

This is a Nomad Bee appreciation post! 🐝

They are “nomads” because they do not build their own homes, instead laying eggs in the nests of other bees where their larvae develop as kleptoparasites

There are up to 39 species of nomad bee in the UK; here are two! Nomada flavopicta & Nomada fucata

I have a question for any ambidextrous people who may be on this fine site!

do you do everything with whatever eg hand that's most convenient at that point in time, or do you have things you do with your right hand/on your right side and things you do with the other?

thanking you
