Hi @lollardfish.bsky.social! Reporting the recent release of my book, MORNINGSIDE. (I see we share a publisher.) Michelle Alexander (The New Jim Crow) calls it "riveting", "a wild ride", "essential" and "moving". A lot to live up to, but I hope readers will find inspiration in it. bit.ly/3Dc6w2Q

An unflinching look at the all but forgotten though no less shocking 1979 racial tragedy that divided Greensboro, N.C., and the nation, and the grassroots activists who, in their tireless fight for ju...

@kaine.senate.gov A lot of workers are hanging tough and not complaining about missing paychecks because they want a win on healthcare. Dems won big Tuesday. You have the upper hand. There's no guarantee we'll have fair midterms. I don't understand the logic of giving Trump what he wants right now?

Mamdani. Most exciting thing to happen in American politics in a long time. Now he's got to deliver the change people want. We can help be demystifying democratic socialism and keeping the fear mongers at bay.

It took 15 years for Congress to pass a holiday for Martin Luther King Jr. The vote in 1983 was 338 for and 90 against. Said King,
"I am convinced that if we are to get on the right side of the world revolution, we as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values."

Yes. Wrong to kill. Prayers. Always prayers. And, it must be said, spreading hate carries risk.
We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.

Yup.
The institutional Democratic Party is guided by an almost pathological level of conflict avoidance in almost every direction. “What can we do to make the least number of people mad?” is just a bankrupt way to operate.

Relative to the illegal arrest of Mahmoud Khalil. A Federal attorney told me recently that a DoJ order has come down demanding dramatic arrests. Rather than street arrests, they want home arrests. These endanger everyone involved. Anyone seen the paperwork on this?
March 11, 2025 at 2:41 PM
@kaine.senate.gov Dear Senator Kaine, I hope you and your colleagues will do everything in your power to stop the illegal arrest (state kidnapping) of Mahmoud Khalil. The president has promised more illegal detentions. This is a test.

WTF with the "she loves me, she loves me not" approach to tariffs. Pure chaos. What's the plan? It's like he's playing freeze tag with the world economy.

It was gratifying to see the @nytimes.com publish an obituary for the great civil and human rights activist Rev. Nelson Johnson. It felt necessary, however, to correct some errors and fill in omissions. See my response on @commondreams.org here: commondreams.org/opinion/rev-...

His clarifying insistence on truth telling will be sorely missed during a time when people are being threatened, demonized, and fired for telling American history’s multiple truths.

You go, Governor Janet Mills. Thank you. Proud to be a #Mainer
more of this “fuck you, make me” energy please
TRUMP: The NCAA has complied immediately. That's good. But I understand Maine -- is the governor of Maine here?

JANET MILLS: Yeah I'm here

TRUMP: Are you not gonna comply?

JM: I'm going to comply with state and federal law

T: You better do it bc you're not gonna get any federal funding at all
