Texas legislature trying to gerrymander districts so that Republicans keep majority in 2916 no matter what. Democratic states- don’t bring a knife to a gun fight. Do the same to save democracy. We won’t win if we don’t fight, and these guys fight dirty.

If the only way Republicans can voice opposition to this bill is while announcing they won’t be running for re-election, imagine how many other Republicans there are who feel the same. Yet they go along because 1) they are cowards and 2) they care more about keeping power than their constituents.

Trump and Republicans are cutting basic healthcare and food assistance to give billionaires a tax cut. Taking directly from the mouths of poor kids to make their friends richer. And still adding an obscene amount to the debt. If that doesn’t disgust you I don’t know what does. Wake up, America.

We can wear masks - so why not?
We could start dressing up as ICE agents and escorting people from their immigration hearings so it looks like they’ve already been detained but we just give them a ride home.

A lot like being called “aliens”
This is unfortunately one thing to drop in the category of "screwed up stuff that has been screwed up for ages."

"Bodies" is a depressingly standard term used by DHS to refer to people in custody.
Garcia said he was shaken by what he heard while he was detained.

“They call them ‘bodies,’ they reduce them to bodies,” he said. “My blood was boiling.”

Yep. The average HSI agent knows they have to get charges to stick in front of a federal judge and is trained accordingly.

The average ERO officer knows that case law says that anything they write in their arrest reports is by law presumed to be accurate in immigration court, and acts accordingly.
HSI agents undergo a lot more training than ERO ones as well, if I understand correctly. ERO is 13 or 16 weeks, depending who you ask, while HSI takes the same Criminal Investigator Training as various other federal LEAs, plus specialized training, and that takes six months.

ERO = ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, the arm of ICE which oversees internal immigration enforcement.

HSI = ICE Homeland Security Investigation, ICE’s criminal investigations arm that traditionally focused on immigration only to the extent of enforcing immigration-related federal crimes.
Any idea what FRO is? This is from one of their promo videos and they were quick to get this gut off camera

There is no reason for ICE to be in plainclothes/wear masks. The vast majority of their arrests are of regular people. I used to bring police misconduct cases and can tell you that ID is key to preventing not only abuse but ensuring criminals don’t impersonate officers to prey on innocent people.

It was certainly the biggest protest I have ever seen in Maui, Hawaii where I live. This is a place where people actively avoid national politics and news.
Congratulations! Now THAT is the America I know and love!!!

We need to start bringing 8th Amendment cases on behalf of these detainees. Not only is overcrowding a problem, detainee abuse is happening too. Our clients are afraid to tell us about it - and say so - because their calls are being monitored. I have a client at FDC Honolulu in this situation.
Smashed the previous record of 55,654 set in early August 2019.

The number of people in detention has now risen over 6,500 in less than a month. I am deeply worried about overcrowding.
ICE just set a record for number people detained at one time.

56,397 people in custody.

Sayed Naser served as a U.S. military interpreter in Afghanistan. Now he’s being deported.

The Taliban assassinated his brother and kidnapped his father. All because he helped us.

Why are the feds trying to deport him, even though his asylum case is still pending?

Not justice, it’s a betrayal.
