The Luke comparison doesn’t work because Luke says in A New Hope that he hates the Empire, has friends who already defected to the Rebel Alliance & plans to defect himself. The Academy was just to get him off Tatooine
I've seen a lot of people comparing Syril Karn to various other Star Wars characters, particularly a version of Luke Skywalker who ended up going to the Imperial academy. From my point of view I think a better comparison for Syril is Kallus.
