Happy New Year! In preparation for the birth of my second child (arriving next week), my team and I have been on a bit of a semi-hiatus from anything other than customer work since December. After next week, I’ll be going into full hiatus mode (also known as parental leave). Wish me luck & see you!

Just witnessed an actual once-in-a-lifetime concert in Helsinki: Orchestral music from the 1990s Finnish-Japanese Moomin tv-animation that so many of my generation (and younger) hold dear. There was a range of emotion present that is almost unheard of.

It's interesting how, when I was younger, I burnt myself out shipping lots of games, sometimes multiple a year, then tried to settle into making less but bigger games in the span of a couple of years and NEVER got rid of that nagging feeling of "I should've shipped already".

Heads up! Steam recently updated trailer categories in Store Page Admin, which caused our trailer to be automatically hidden, even though we hadn’t changed anything. Only screenshots were showing. It's fixed now, but worth checking if your game has a public store page! #indiedev #gamedev

After 3 weeks of executive dysfunction I finally did it. I made a phone call! Whew now I can maybe relax for the rest of my summer break.

After a failed attempt at viewing the sun at the local observatory today (the sky got overcast immediately after I got out of work) I went and climbed an old Firewatch tower nearby. The view was nice. My legs are still shaking.

We've been working on the same game for years now, basically on coffee breaks while we keep the lights on. It's still quite expensive and time-consuming to produce said game, especially with the amount of attention to small details we aspire to.

What frustrates me most about my profession is: often it feels like what I *should* be doing is create a "personality brand" to sell my games. Seems to me that's what a lot of small indies are doing, consciously or not. Put the clint-eastwood-grumpy-old-man gif here.

Nintendo Switch 2 is honestly... pretty great. Everything runs smoother. The screen feels a lot bigger compared to the original, or even the Steam Deck. 120hz is butter smooth. There's not a lot of new games yet, but every old game I have just runs better and loads faster.
