Interesting contribution to the debate about what might be basic tenets of critical realism through the idea of threshold concepts. There's subtlety in their argument that these concepts help those new to CR to understand what's going on, rather than ones that all critical realists hold.
In their new open access paper 'Thinking like a critical realist: getting through the portal', Catherine Hastings, Karen Sheppard & Angela Davenport use the idea of threshold concepts to investigate how to get to grips with critical realism for the first time.
