In 1676 Ole Rømer saw eclipses of Jupiter’s moon Io run late when Earth moved away from Jupiter and early when approaching. Earth’s orbital diameter was known from Kepler’s laws; from this he was the first to estimate the speed of light (at 220,000 km/s) and was accurate to 75% #AstroHistory

I was finally able to get #Jupiter’s #GreatRedSpot pretty well. (Friday, Oct. 24, 2025)
I’m still learning the ZWO ASI 678MC camera and using the SharpCap.

A fireball lit up the sky over Georgia and the Carolinas on June 26, 2025. In Henry County, a fragment crashed through a home's roof and floor. On June 29, Ed Albin found a 14.33-gram piece in McDonough, confirming its extraterrestrial origin.
