I’m an award-winning journalist for my #space coverage for Spectrum News in Florida, where I am a digital news editor. I have a long career in newspapers & news sites. I’m a family guy who enjoys #astronomy & #astrophotography.
I got a pretty decent capture of #Jupiter and its #RedSpot.

It was on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026

Phobos hovering over the giant volcanoes of Mars! Fabulous view from ESA's Mars Express orbiters.

Phobos is the 25 km (15 mile) wide flying grey rock at center. The volcanoes are (l-r) Arsia Mons, Pavonis Mons, and Ascraeus Mons. Processing by Andrea Luck. 🧪🔭

Happy #RedPlanetDay! It is a day to honor #Mars, also known as the #RedPlanet.

This is my photo of Mars that I took from earlier in the year using my Celestron NexStar 8SE telescope and Canon Rebel T8i camera.

You can see its polar ice cap and Valles Marineris, a system of canyons. #astronomy

In 1676 Ole Rømer saw eclipses of Jupiter’s moon Io run late when Earth moved away from Jupiter and early when approaching. Earth’s orbital diameter was known from Kepler’s laws; from this he was the first to estimate the speed of light (at 220,000 km/s) and was accurate to 75% #AstroHistory

In 1665, Giovanni Cassini was first to observe a “Permanent Spot” on Jupiter, though probably wasn't today’s Red Spot using 34-ft refractors at the Paris Observatory. He tracked it for years to measure Jupiter’s rotation. Cassini’s drawings survive in Paris Observatory archives. #AstroHistory

The #BeaverMoon#Supermoon — over Orlando.

I was happy I could capture this. I used my #Celestron NexStar 8SE #telescope and #Canon camera.

I was finally able to get #Jupiter’s #GreatRedSpot pretty well. (Friday, Oct. 24, 2025)

I’m still learning the ZWO ASI 678MC camera and using the SharpCap.

It’s still not as clear as I hoped it would be. But I am learning.

Not my best but at least I was able to capture #Jupiter’s rotation a tiny bit. (Check out the position of the #RedSpot.)

I took this with my #Celestron NexStar 8SE telescope and ZWO camera on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025.

I need to invest in a few heater.
