Since we're all divesting from our billionaire overlords... what a great time to switch from Goodreads to indie-owned (+ much cuter, cooler, social) Pagebound?

Hi #booksky 👋 we're Pagebound, a new social reading site (think: if Goodreads and Reddit had a baby). Come read with us !

As the second month of 2026 flies by I’ve just completed my first indie book of the year, Far Removed, and am now well into Let Sleeping Gods Lie. Soon I'll start reading The Godsblood Tragedy, Passage One of the Divine Godsqueen Coda (what a mouthful) by @williamjadams3.bsky.social

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Hugo Awards!

Emails are going out to eligible nominators (those who became a member of LAcon V by January 31, 2026, or were a member of the Seattle Worldcon 2025) about how to set up their LAcon V virtual convention account.

Word of the Week: Anachronism

Definition: something that exists out of its time in history, especially if it happens or exists later than the period being discussed (Merriam Webster)

Not to be confused with arachnophobia btw. Makes you wonder, could time travellers have an anachrophobia 🤔🤔

Draft2Digital just partnered with Bookshop.org, which supports indepent bookstores for every book sold. This means you can find all my books on there as well, both the Ankuan Trilogy and The Fox's Crown.

If you usually buy from Amazon or Barnes & Noble, consider this bookshop-friendely alternative!
Bookshop.org: Buy books online. Support local bookstores.
A better way to buy books online. Every purchase financially supports local independent bookstores.

Favourite word of the week: Zeroth

Definition: being numbered zero in a series

Never thought a word existed for Zero like first for one, second for two etc.

Really weird word, only really appliccable in mathematics or science, but impressive if yiu can use it in a fiction book

Word of the week: syzygy (yes its a real word)
Meaning: In astronomy, a syzygy is a roughly straight-line configuration of three or more celestial bodies in a gravitational system.
Definitely have to use that term in one of my books 😂

This January I'm honoring my new years resolution to read more Indie SFF. So far I'm very impressed by the setting of Far Removed, first story I've ever read that takes place on a moon! As for my next read, its been a while since I've read any Urban Fantasy, so I'm curious how that will go.

Fun fact I learned today: glacier ice is, in fact, a kind of (monomineralic) rock. It fits the technical definition of rock, which is any naturally occurring solid mass or aggregate of minerals (according to wikipedia).

Good luck to everyone who entered their books into SPFBO 11!!! Taking part in SPFBO X had a huge impact on my writing career (and I’m forever grateful to @marklawrenceauthor.bsky.social for running this competition), so I hope this next batch of authors finds as much value in it as I did.

My top 5 reads of 2025! A very broad range of genres, though one of my goals for next year is to read more Indie books.

Never thought I'd have a book about mathematics in my top 5 but Fermat's Last Theorem had a surprisingly cool storyline.
