Ten years ago today we shipped Firewatch. I say this every anniversary but it feels both like a lifetime ago and like it was yesterday. Thank you everyone who played it back then or played it today for the first time. Thank you to everyone on the team, I’m still so proud of what we made.

I spent all week looking at (bad) screen so spending time being creative on (good) screen is so tough, but my creative goals this year are to release my album, sort out my music YouTube page, make a music video and work on some small game as a composer if I find a good project to collaborate with

As with many AAA game music releases, it's not super well presented outside of the game officially - this mix captures the highlights of Lorn's portion of the game:

I can think of a handful of exceptions that prove the rule but yeah it's so bleak. Some (not-recent) standouts to me include Amon Tobin's Infamous 1 ost and Lorn's work on half of Killzone Shadowfall... eg in those cases the music was definitely way more interesting than I was expecting playing them

I definitely think a lot of the strongest stuff in the game story wise is the quiet/sad stuff with the NPCs in each town like after sin attacks a location, while the core party stuff is a bit clumsy

I talked to five game composers about their relationship with Bandcamp for @theavclubgames.bsky.social They were largely positive about the platform, its user base and pay structure, but a change in payment processors is worrying some. Give it a read, maybe a share!

Regarding culture, we visited the Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Culture Park last time and that was excellent - this is 50% a Lunar New Year visit so hopefully we have more time for relaxing and taking things in!
