Gift article. Long but worth reading. Watched the Emmys while in the hospital when Noah Wyle accepted his award and said this:
“And mostly, to anybody who’s going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight, thank you for being in that job. This is for you.”

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

Just sitting here in the living room minding my own business and the Barred Owl is so loud that the Merlin App picks up the sound. And I live right in the middle of town! It's wonderful. 😁🦉

This is important! I have worked with many talented translators over the years. What they create cannot be replicated by AI. These incredible people understand the nuance of language and how to convey the writer's intent and the atmosphere of the work being translated. I trust and value their work.
Deep breath
Ok I'm going to try and stay calm
But I'll point out that AI translation is literally causing translators to be fired (see the whole Harlequin line in France)

Hello, my friends! I have to share this memory with you from a holiday party in 2019. This dish was on the table, brought by a guest. Spaghettios aspic ring around vienna sausages. I'm not sure if this is brilliant or diabolical. Maybe both. I was not brave enough to sample it.

Someone really loves me! 😁😋

Perhaps not as exciting as the owl, but still pretty cute. A Northern Cardinal (or as I like to call them, a red bird 😉). Sun was setting so video is not too clear.

Seen today, right outside the dining room. You don't have to go far to see amazing things. They are all around you.

Hello, Tallahassee peeps! Today is the last day of the Alternative Christmas Market at John Wesley United Methodist Church. I won't be there this year manning the table for St. Francis Wildlife Association in my raccoon costume but Willow, this beautiful owl, may be there to welcome you.

Beautiful flowers on a rainy day brought to me by a beautiful friend. I'm lucky!

In honor of #Caturday I am wearing my cat sweat pants that my daughter gave me during the shutdown. From a cool shop in Amsterdam. Topping it off with a t-shirt that features The Traitor Jesse Bun. Feeling in a pink mood and somewhat bunnified. 😁😉 Artfully designed by Jeremy Zerfoss.

Excellent story that should be read by all.
It's December and people are reading for awards.

I only had one publication this year, and it's about loneliness and gender and sexual assault and girlhood and Americana and carnivorous plants.

Good morning my friends! Today is Giving Tuesday. As many of you know, I've been a board member at St. Francis Wildlife Association for a few years but a supporter and donor for decades. Please join me in supporting our wild friends in our neighborhoods.

On The Turntable Now

“Days” (June 1968) by The Kinks

Ok, so I'm cheating a bit. It's not an album and I'm not playing it on a turntable. I'm playing a YouTube video. And I've been playing it over and over again the last few days, so I thought I'd write about it.

I was taking my evening walk, heard the sounds of many birds overhead. Nothing I've ever heard before. Usually in the evening I only hear the soft sounds of insects. Quickly opened the Merlin App and guess what? Black-bellied Whistling-Duck! I saw them fly by. Moon still a crescent.

I'm looking forward to reading and considering, along with my fellow judges, the works of art and fiction that will be coming in. I've even cleared an entire bookcase! 📚😁📚😉📚

Turned on the local college radio station and they were playing "This Is The Modern World" by The Jam. What a great way to start a Monday!

And now they're playing "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways. I don't know who's DJ'ing this morning, but I might be in love. 😁😉

Coming back after walking this evening, I heard a bird sound I'd never heard before. I quickly turned on the Merlin App and was told it was a Grasshopper Sparrow! Beautiful moon, although not full as it looks in this photo (limitations of my phone). Just a crescent.
