Big believer in the power of the early childhood years ✨ #ECE policy, mom to two under two, super fan of #childcare educators
Sharing design reccs for ECE apprenticeships! I'm excited to see these programs spread, but I don't think they're a quick fix to the workforce crisis. If they're tailored to the people who benefit most from them, they can be a great support to educators who might not otherwise pursue higher ed.
How can apprenticeship models help early childhood educators succeed? New #BankStreetEdCenter report shares key findings and design recommendations from an evaluation of Vermont’s #ECE apprenticeship program. Read more: educate.bankstreet.edu/faculty-staff/59

Harsh immigration policies will harm child care. I've seen fear in the centers I work with in NYC and at my daughter's child care. It's reminiscent of my time teaching in AZ after SB1070 was passed. "Even if the raids decrease, once fear takes hold the chilling effects could linger."
What if the people caring for American children get deported?
The new immigration raids are threatening parents, kids, and providers.

This does a great job of illuminating the stress felt by child care and Head Start providers in the wake of Tuesday's funding freeze announcement and subsequent reversal. Combined with the fear of ICE raids and concern for undocumented children and families, ECE professionals are shouldering a ton.
I have a new piece up at @the74.bsky.social: even if the immediate funding freeze crisis is over, we shouldn't undersell the harm caused by introducing needless chaos and stress into the lives of children, parents, and early educators.

The online system that distributes federal money to Head Start programs is warning providers of upcoming delays, apparently due to the Trump admin’s sweeping review of federal spending
Trump Administration Payment Freeze May Delay Money For Critical Preschool Program
Head Start providers logging onto the online funding system this morning found a message warning of delays because of "potentially unallowable grant payments."

Who will be harmed by President Trump’s lawless and unconstitutional OMB directive?

Kids enrolled in Head Start.

Senior citizens who rely on Meals on Wheels.

And countless American families.
Meals on Wheels America spox on OMB pause:

"the uncertainty right now is creating chaos for local Meals on Wheels providers not knowing whether they should be serving meals today. Which unfortunately means seniors will panic not knowing where their next meals will come from."

I'm very proud of the work I was able to do in 2024, including this report on parity compensation for early care educators in #NewYork. States and cities need to step up and fund equitable salaries for #ECE professionals - some already have! Read more here: earlychildhoodny.org/docs/parity-...
