Ready to dive down a fascinating rabbit hole? Starting in 1969, a Temple Univ prof interviewed #kidlit folk, and now all the videos are available on YouTube. tinyurl.com/must3pwy
h/t to Jon Klassen and Mac Barnett for suggesting the Tana Hoban interview in their newsletter.
Arnold Lobel (1973) - Profiles in Literature No. 15
“Profiles in Literature” is a series of half-hour interviews with leading authors, illustrators, and editors of children’s books, originally recorded on video cassette starting in 1969. Programs were first viewed in Temple University’s Children’s Literature classes, but when other institutions requested them, distribution began. The series originator and copyright holder was Dr. Jaqueline Schachter Weiss (1926-2021), Temple University Associate Professor-Emerita of children's literature. Interviews are conducted by Shachter Weiss and Mrs. Carolyn W. Field (1916-2010), Coordinator of the Office of Work with Children at the Free Library of Philadelphia and ex-president of the U.S. section of the International Board on Books for Young People. Digital copies of these videos were a gift from Scott Shachter, in memory of Dr. Jaqueline Shachter Weiss, EdD.

My 3 y/o grandson told his mom, "My g'ma is really good at making books. She made this for me." The book I supposed ly wrote? LON PO PO by Ed Young.
Maybe mistaken identity isn't so bad.

A book of my heart--about a character I love and the writer and artist who collaborated to create him. I had a wonderful collaborator-- @faithpray7.bsky.social who brought my words to life with playful, buoyant art.

Why I love critique partners: they suggest 3 seemingly different books as mentor texts for 1 manuscript. Nothing like getting critical creative juices flowing! @eijasumner.bsky.social #critiquegroup

A fascinating @publisherswkly.bsky.social article about "sneaky bias" in the gendering of animal characters in #kidlit. As the article says, "Animal characters don't just reflect our biases. They often deepen them." tinyurl.com/u9hjud9h @mellymeldubs.bsky.social

One of the lovely things about running for library board is being invited into strangers' homes to talk about the library issues that they care about.
