Herbaria are collections of preserved plants, and have been called “plant mummies” as specimens usually turn brown, looking somewhat unappealing.

As it's still world book day in many places: here is the most recent addition to my bookshelves, a birthday present from someone who knows me well!
A good dose of early 18thC local antiquarianism and regional pride to remind me of Uppsala if/when I move on.

Over the last many months I've been working on two new terms for the RMBS controlled vocabularies thesaurus. They're for use when cataloguing books with plants (or other organic bits and bobs) pressed inside them, and they're currently open for comment. (Links in next post) #GLAMS 📚 #RareBooks

My department at Uppsala university has just announced two open PhD positions: one in history of science and the other in history of ideas. We research, for example, colonial history of science, history of medicine, and intellectual history. Deadline: 8 April
