I got Claude Code to audit my Mac's folder / file structure (because it is a hot mess developed over 20 years). Turns out I hoard copies of Transport all over the place. You never know when you might need it!!

No one's coming, it's up to us (to remember to pay our taxes)
Disappointing LLMs can't do personal taxes yet. But not at all surprising. Too complex to do as a single shot task.

Prompt they used in the paper is ambitious: github.com/column-tax/t...

Pretty much a "here's my data, do the taxes" prompt with no access to tools, eval loops, or human checks

DING DING DING! I just remembered I've got to pay some tax to HMRC by 31 July. Have you also forgotten? Consider this a reminder!

I’m often asked for examples of good ‘working in the open’ - so I’ve made a list of some of my favourites, and I’ll do my best to keep it updated as I hear about new ones. It’s called “Doing open”

Motorists will be given up to £3,750 to switch to electric cars as ministers seek to boost demand to meet net zero targets.

Drivers buying new EVs with a list price of under £37,000 will be eligible for the discount

As a case in point, a certain crowd-funding publisher that went bust recently owed nearly £360k to HMRC in PAYE it had withheld from peoples' payslips but hadn't actually, you know, paid across to HMRC - there are a *lot* of SMEs and this adds up, even disregarding the umbrella scams going round.

quite fun to go back to the comments on early GDS blog posts.

This is exactly what I mean when I say that it is impossible to reduce friction, only to move it around.

The text-making-up machine dropped the friction of "research" to zero, but every single person downstream of that "research" who has to act upon it now shoulders a double workload.
Librarian here. Got an email from a patron about our "poor selection" of books on AI, w/ list of new books that we HAD to get so ppl could stay informed about this important subject. Title, author, synopsis.

Of 11 titles on the list, 10 Did Not Exist. At all.
