Art throwback day! I found a school project I made when I was five. (Still coming to grips with the fact that I was in kindergarten in the 70s.)

Here we have a brown bear, clearly modeled on a stuffed animal, drawn in brown crayon. This book is the earliest proof that I once enjoyed drawing.

Still too negative from me, so it's art time again.

I drew this today after watching too many Akihito Yoshitomi videos. It's probably the favorite thing I've done so far. But even better, I can see several things that I want to improve. That means I have concrete learning goals now. Success!

If you want to stop people from using cliched and overused words, I say go for it. Throw out "immersive" too. Reviewers rely on too many crutch words.

But saying an emphasizing word is being used inaccurately is some prescriptivist bullshit. Language is mutable. Just ask "literally."
I'll bang this drum till the day I die. I've said it before and I'll say it again

Using addictive as a descriptor for a video game is lazy and almost entirely inaccurate to the point you're trying to get across.

Balatro is not destroying the life of you and your loved ones, you just like the game
I cut addictive out of so many reviews. Unless you are talking about predatory mechanics that are literally designed to manipulate people in habit-forming ways, do not use it as "game is too fun!"

18 days since I posted proof that I'm actually trying to learn art? I promise I haven't given up. Here is a thoroughly embarrassing, sausage-fingered rendition of a hand doing that thwipy thing. I really need to work harder so that I can post less embarrassing art.

While I'm desperately trying to maintain my sanity, let's talk about pencil leads.

When I started this return to learning art, I started with a mechanical pencil. Love mechanical pencils, but I was having so much trouble controlling my line weights. Everything was a think, bold line. (1/3)

The fact that big companies have been all in on AI for game dev, only for AI exuberance to bite them on the ass, is a chef's kiss moment.
Video game stocks are suddenly crashing today with the launch of Google's Project Genie as investors think games will start magically getting made with AI

Up through episode six of Dispatch and I am destroyed. Eff.

DHS has been a failed project since its inception. It's only mission has been to instill fear in the population to make it easier to manipulate and control.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

I started up Highguard, played through the tutorial, then immediately uninstalled. I thought I might give it a try, but I felt so stressed trying to keep everything straight that I knew that I should never play against people.

Four episodes into Dispatch and I am in love with this game. The choices have been killing me. And I love how they use the game parts to explore the narrative and how the characters interact. I'm trying to pace myself so that I don't bolt the whole thing at once, but it's so difficult!

It's a curl up under the blanket and hide kind of day.

Just played the first episode of Dispatch and I am stunned. What a great start to the game.

Reading Too Many Losing Heroines v5 and Nukumizu is such a fool. These books are so fun.

@puzzmo.com Tried my first Ribbit today and I'm already hooked! What a great replacement for Wordbind, which I enjoyed dearly.

I'm not opposed to AI because it is bad at its job. I'm opposed to AI because it is too good at its true job: to destroy art and replace it with infinite content slop.

Last one for a bit. Here is my Proko Drawing Basics pear. Literally the first thing the course asks you to draw. I've already gone back and updated the shading to define the front side better. But I was a little happy with how this started.

See? I'm doing the work!

Not that I'm going to turn this into an art account any time soon, but I do want to start documenting my art journey, primarily as a way to be accountable to myself

So here is the drawing got me started...

AI was supposed to do away with the drudgery. But instead it's being used to replace the things that make us human. Not surprising when society values and rewards idea men and thought leaders over artists.

I often hear about Monster Hunter Wilds' bad story, which I don't understood. You explore a region thought uninhabited, discover that the ancient people had engineered the environment and creatures there, and that nature had used these tools resurrect a previously extinct species. That's awesome!

As much as I enjoyed playing D&D when I was younger, the last thing I ever want is to hear someone talk about their game. Another way that D&D is like sex, I suppose.

One of my favorite things to do is read notes on emulator github pages and pretend to understand what they mean.

I'm honestly kinda fucked up over the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife. If you asked me about my favorite movies, two competing for the top of the list are The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally. These and other of his works had an outsized hand in forming the person I am today. How miserable.
