A NJ appeals court on Monday upheld the state’s environmental justice law meant to protect residents in communities overburdened by pollution.
The Court unanimously ruled that DEP did not exceed its statutory authority when interpreting the state law.

NY will phase out the harvest of horseshoe crabs for bait and biomedical use following similar prohibitions in NJ in 2008.

NJ is spending $11 million on nature-based projects to remove carbon from the atmosphere and fight climate change. Stone Harbor in Cape May County, Stafford Township and Montclair will each receive funding for these projects.

Over the last three decades, Yellowstone National Park has undergone an ecological cascade. As elk numbers fell, aspen and willow trees thrived. This, in turn, allowed beaver numbers to increase, creating new habitats for fish and birds.

NJ's wetland rules protect adjacent "transition areas" up to 150 ft, giving wildlife refuge habitat and helping filter sediment and stormwater from development. The state act outlines a goal "to restore, enhance and maintain the chemical, physical and biological integrity" of NJ's waters.
