My dear friend and talented filmmaker Alize Jireh has gone to live in an arctic lighthouse for a whole year!
I had her on the podcast before touring her debut film, Women & the Wind.

Tracing the lines felt like a practice of knowing transfer, from the Polynesian seafarers who inspired these designs through to James Wharram who dreamt up this design, the women who drew this ideas into self-build plans, and those now guiding and advising us, to us, our kids, the volunteers.

We had a team of volunteers help on the first day of flooring construction but it’s been @angierichard.bsky.social chipping away since, solo. Much slower alone but almost there!

Three women crossed the North Atlantic Ocean on a 50-year-old wooden catamaran they spent a year renovating themselves. They filmed the 30-day crossing and collected data on ocean plastics. I’m privileged to have produced the film. Watch it on Kinema until July 27th: kinema.com/events/Women...

Tyson Yunkaporta’s proposal to use the existing mechanics of our global economic system but changing it from infinite growth (impossible goal) to infinite increase, with biomass equity at the heart of how we measure wealth.

This scrum of pot-bellied, sunken-chested betas trying to bully an all-black clad badass Eastern European wasteland survivor while dressed like Men’s Wearhouse mannequins is peak cinema.
GLENN: Why don't you wear a suit? You're at the highest level in this country's office & you refuse to wear a suit. A lot of Americans have problems with you not respecting the office.

ZELENSKYY: I will wear a costume after this war will finish. Maybe something like yours. Maybe something better.

FYI people, these hyper-litigious thin-skinned wastrels burn through public resources at a far greater rate than scientific grants. In case you’re wondering where to shove that “refund” DOGE is (never) going to give you.
So if you criticize Elon Musk, Trump’s DOJ will send you this letter. Members of Congress must have the right to forcefully oppose the Trump Administration. I will not be silenced.

Please, please archive your work. Please. I’ve recently been saving lots of my essays as pdfs just so the Internet doesn’t suddenly delete them all (this happened to a whole load of blogs I wrote for The Independent years ago). I don’t want you to wake up and suddenly find your work gone like I did.
