It was eight in the morning on a Friday. I'd just arrived for work. I'd been employed by this particular company for about a month. I was asked to follow the woman past a glass office wherein I saw my supervisor sitting behind a laptop with an employee across from him. This was highly abnormal for that early hour. Something was up. I began to sweat. I was brought into a room where it was just the female superior and myself. She shut the door. I stood against a wall as if in front of a firing squad, my hands hanging loosely by my sides. She stood at the opposite side of the room, one foot on the lowest rung of a chair, and proceeded to tell me how a colleague had complained about me. This was it. I was about to get fired for the third time in the same year. I began to shake. I shook so much that the woman noticed. "What's going on?" she asked. I didn't want to speak for fear my voice would sound shaky. I didn't want to tell this woman I'd been canned twice in the last ten months under circumstances very similar to what was happening in that moment. I didn t want to tell this woman that la only recently got my confidence back and was beginning to fear I was about to lose it again. I didn't want this woman to know that my wife of over twenty years didn't love me anymore and wanted a divorce. I didn't want this woman to know my wife had told me she no longer wanted me to express tender sentiments toward her because she didn t reciprocate them. I didn't want to tell this woman, whom Id known in a professional capacity for barely a handful of weeks, and who was not my friend, or at all friendly to me, that my wife did not want me to touch her anymore. "I've had a bad couple years," was all I could get out.

Finally catching up with my podcasts. This week’s #ChartChat made me feel a twinge of shameful recognition when @therachel.bsky.social correctly described the phenomenon of the bigger fan at a concert overexplaining each song to the lesser fan. That was me & my sister at Aimee Mann this year.

Finished Please Don’t Sit on My Bed in your Outside Clothes by Phoebe Robinson. Discovered Phoebe when she was interviewed on Good Ones. This is a collection of essays on relationships, life during COVID-19, self care, dating a British dude, Black hair, travel, BLM & more. Funny & smart. I liked it.

Laura, What the hell was the music video for the Sebadoh song “Ocean” about? Was it supposed to be making fun of Morrissey or something? Thanks, -Andy Sent from my iPhone Laura Crapo 8:46 PM (6 minutes ago) to me Hi Andy, Lou gave me carte blanche since he liked the thrush hermit french inhale video. It was choreographed and scripted and members from Six Finger Satellite cameo. We all had a lot of fun and laughed a lot.
