German who likes to travel and is interested in ⚽️, history and politics. Science. Slava Ukraini. Visca el Barça. Probably listening to 80s Rock right now. Doesn’t like fascists, including orange ones.

I’m going to put my rich guy hat on and say I hope that Mexico and Canada issue equal, retaliatory tariffs and stick to them for an extended period.

I apologize to all the people it will cost money and the businesses it will hurt.

But it’s the only way for tariffs to be seen for what they are

There is a reason TikTok is so good at figuring out what you want to see, and why it’s better than everything else: it’s a weapon, and the best weapon is one you don’t know exists, or worse, one you think you can’t live without

‪The Trump clan reminds me of the Bluth family in Arrested Development (without Michael). But while the Bluths are eccentric, you can still find them likeable or feel pity for what happens to them.
As in the TV show, the plot is getting more and more absurd with each season.

That’s the major flaw of democracy. Everyone is allowed to vote so even the dumbest people and whose who can be easily manipulated are allowed to vote. Let’s see if the US democracy survives Trump II.

Trump will probably tell this guy to jail his biggest critics and opponents (without them breaking the law). This will put the US justice system to the test. The next years will show if the US is en route to become a full banana republic. I got my fingers crossed but I’ not really optimistic.

Good to see you and @blayasensat.bsky.social here on Bluesky. I’m still also active in the other, darker place, partly because of the football accounts.

If you’re a criminal in the US and you have some powerful and wealthy friends, your best bet to evade prosecution is running for president.

November 23, 2024 at 8:14 PM

Have to say I’m impressed with what Bluesky has become. Will now use it more for interaction than Twitter. Won’t close my account there, as it’s still useful to get news out. However, this is a better place

Don’t forget that he’s a republican. Since 2016, morals and the criminal record don’t matter anymore if you’re a republican.

‘US history from the founding fathers to fascism, Part 3 (or 4 or whatever): 1920-1974’ could be a provocative title if there are also lectures about the periods before 1920 and after 1974.

US history from the founding fathers to fascism, part 3 (or 4 or whatever) could be a provocative title that would work if there are also lectures about everything before 1920 and after 1974…

Beautiful. I visited Zion and many other national parks in the southwest with my parents as a kid. I’d love to revisit them someday. But this depends on the political situation. Maybe in the 2030s if the US is still a democracy.

Stephen Colbert called him a Jazz Pirate during the interview and he liked it. He could easily play a role in a swashbuckler movie without having to change his clothes and maybe that’s what he’s waiting for. He would surely be great.

But I’m not optimistic. I don’t think that the Dems can replicate what the Right wing media was able to do. They’re not shameless enough. They can’t lie as much as Trump and his MAGA media machine does.

Excellent thread. Every time someone wrote “it’s the economy, stupid” in the last week, I wanted to puke. No it isn’t. It’s the perception of the economy. Millions of poor people voted for someone who will make sure that grocery prices will go up not down.

Some of these WaPo, NYT and Politico (among others) headlines give the impression that the authors work in a dictatorship. As if they don’t want to alienate the next president.
