🧵There will be much to say about Trump’s military actions. Yes, he should have sought congressional authorization. But too much analysis leaves out how Venezuelans, both in the diaspora and at home, understand what just happened. Their perspective should inform our understanding.

I joined @aliciamenendez.bsky.social to discuss the 60 Minutes cancellation. There was never a legitimate legal reason to send anyone to CECOT.

The Trump administration knew these fathers, sons, and brothers would be tortured. This story isn’t going away.

I joined @theweekendmsnow.bsky.social to discuss the administration’s push to expand denaturalization. There’s no national security justification for the admin to expand this extreme, rarely used process.
It doesn’t make us safer; it terrorizes immigrants and naturalized citizens.

It was such a pleasure to join the @thelatinonewsletter.org to talk about the past 15 years of immigration policy, and on a more personal note, what it is like to be a Latina policy staffer navigating D.C. I hope you listen to learn more about this moment in immigration politics and policy
This @thelatinonewsletter.org episode with @andreaflores.bsky.social is one of my favorites. The team did a fantastic job with this one.

🧵When I launched America’s Promise, I wanted to open up the conversation around immigration, connecting policy to the real politics shaping this issue. So I’m thrilled to share that the Substack is growing & that I’ll be welcoming guest contributors.

In today’s Substack, I explain why Democrats must move past old talking points and offer a new vision for immigration reform that meets America’s economic needs in 2026, not 2013.

Today, I spoke with Kilmar Abrego Garcia and his wife, Jennifer. In April, when I met with him in El Salvador, Trump said he would never set foot in the U.S. again.

This case has never been about one man alone; if the govt can violate the constitutional rights of one, all our rights are threatened.
December 13, 2025 at 9:59 PM
Kilmar’s freedom today is thanks to the courage of @casaforall.bsky.social, @vanhollen.senate.gov, & @ivey.house.gov, who fought for his right to due process after a wrongful deportation. When others called this bad politics, they stood firm, and in doing so, defended due process for everyone.
Judge Xinis ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s release in part bc ICE could not produce a final “order of removal” to deport him. So last night, they went out and got an immigration judge to issue one.

Now, Abrego is urging Xinis to block his redetention. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

This is a huge development. Kilmar has been systematically targeted by the federal government. They wrongfully deported him, and have spent all year trying to retaliate against him for bringing attention to their own mistake.
Breaking news: A federal judge ordered the “immediate release” of Kilmar Abrego García, a 30-year-old immigrant from El Salvador, from ICE custody, saying Department of Justice attorneys “misled” the court at a hearing last month.

U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis said the government could not indefinitely detain Abrego, a 30-year-old immigrant from El Salvador who is fighting his deportation.

Here’s the hard truth: Most of Trump’s deportations are legal. If you are outraged about what’s happening, then we have to get serious about pushing Congress to act. That’s the only way out of this. Read more on my newsletter today:

I joined @theweekendprime.bsky.social to discuss Trump’s expanding family separation policy. His administration is coercing families onto deportation flights and escalating attacks on the asylum system, aiming to dismantle it entirely, not just at the border.

As much as people want to simplify this tragedy by finding one mistake made by Biden or Trump, you can’t. This suspect was vetted multiple times since his service in Afghanistan, this is not a Biden or Trump immigration issue. The question is what drove this man to gun violence?

I wrote about a Biden enforcement pilot because even though public opinion is softening on Trump’s deportation campaign, voters don’t trust Dems on immigration. They need to present an alternative to enforce the law more humanely. Read more here: arosaflores.substack.com

What’s happening in Charlotte isn’t about public safety — it’s about sending a message to American citizens and their undocumented family members that they’re not welcome here. We must stand up to the lies this administration is spreading about immigrants.
“[Trump] is totally chilling daily life with these enforcement actions. It’s not about crime...it’s about saying you’re not welcome here.” @andreaflores.bsky.social on President Trump's escalating immigration crackdown happening despite the Administration's terrible week in federal court.
