Great to see a space like this open up on the left.

At the launch I played Tribute to Peadar O’Donnell. He founded The Bell with O’Faoláin back in 1940.

An Cloghan means “the little bell.” A great title. It rings the alarm, signals people to gather and hopefully, calls time on the old order.

In the face of Macron's neoliberal onslaught, the creation of a workers' cooperative at the Duralex glass factory has inspired the French labour movement. Can it also shine a path forward for workers across Europe?

"Neutrality does not mean staying silent about oppression and imperialism. It means [...] taking a distinct anti-colonial position."

The decline of the Catholic church was greeted as an ideological victory by the Left in Ireland. But might the church's fall also signal the erosion of the social bonds necessary for any mass movement? If so, what's to be done?

Can the Irish people pursue self-determination and neutrality while remaining committed to the EU? This notion, writes @claredalyirl, is one of the central contradictions of Irish political consciousness today. As the EU militarises, progressives cannot equivocate.

Before becoming the 'godfather' of communism, Karl Marx was a committed republican. And his republicanism, writes Bruno Leipold, indelibly shaped his understanding of politics and his vision for a post-capitalist society.

"Irish republicanism", writes @M_AndersonSF, "has always sought to dismantle systems of oppression."

In An Clogán, Martina traces the growth of republican thought and its application to contemporary challenges, from gender to the environment to national sovereignty and the EU.

Drawing on first-hand experience, Deaglán Ó Mocháin describes how working-class women and men, as republican prisoners, developed their own political consciousness - rooted in a shared social background, a national culture and language, and a global emancipatory struggle.
