Some days I have the strength to believe in the “we will get through this, we will keep fighting to stay here”

and other (most) days I’m grieving that I’ve work so hard to earn a marine policy fellowship only for every institution i’ve dreamed of working at being destroyed, cut and left in ruins.

ok, cis folks—if you said you'd stand with trans folks, it's time.

S.9 is the senate's sports ban bill—a big step to making trump’s executive order a federal law, which is much harder to undo. it can be stopped *monday.*

short call scripts for dem & GOP senators ⬇️🧵

legiscan.com/US/bill/SB9/...
a cloture vote for the way-harder-to-undo-than-an-executive-order federal anti-trans sports ban is now set for monday. that means there's more time to make calls.

no on cloture means it doesn't get a vote. the GOP needs 7 dems to advance it.

please call. there is *so* much evil downstream of this.

My REU in 2019 was the very first time I told myself “me? a scientist? I can do it.”

It introduced me to my research interests, to knowing how to approach graduate school and what NOAA even was. Without it I would not be where I am today. This is devastating.
My REU in 2011 helped me understand I had a path in research. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring several REU’s, many of whom have gone onto grad school or scientific careers. The gutting of these programs will have a devastating impact for many years.

One of the people fired from NOAA today is the director of the Ocean Acidification Program. That program also leads the U.S. government's effort on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR). The destruction of American science is incomprehensible.

There is *a lot* going on right now. My hot take, as I try to keep up wrt our planet:

“These executive orders will make our air dirtier, make people sicker, make energy more expensive, and make our communities less prepared for extreme weather.”
