sitting in a waiting room this morning while my partner had a 6 hour long cancer removal surgery when I saw the news that the insurance CEO was shot. Im paying out of pocket because the best alternative for us is partial coverage @ 1000 a month with a 15000 deductible. Anyway heres a unrelated comic

Started reading “The Silent Companions” by Laura Purcell and oh my god!.. So good! I’m not big on Victorian fiction, but this is just a marvellous book — with a great sense of place and time. And it’s pretty creepy too. Just what the doctor ordered 👻

Finally switched to gigabit connection — only to realise at the very last moment, that neither of my routers could handle it anyway 🤡

I freakin miss janky primeval games like the original Alone in the Dark, Primal Rage, Little Big Adventure, and Terra Incognita: Strike Force Centauri 😭

After reading about Cormac McCarthy, I just pray that George Saunders will not turn out to be some sort of a creep. That would be a fatal blow for me. #booksky

A little Ahab appreciation thread. I first started listening to this band (and to funeral doom in general) , because it really helped me concentrate on work. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and I had to look for something new to play while working. youtu.be/IZu713hTb9w?...

May I just say that as a guy who’s been living with depression for many years, I am so freakin’ glad that aripiprazole exists. Antidepressants don’t really do the trick for me on their own, but when you, say, pair some Prozac with this bad boy, something magical happens.

Fun fact: when writer Michael Avallone told the producers of the 1968 film "Krakatoa, East of Java" that Krakatoa was WEST of Java they told him: "shut up and write the book..."

So, after enjoying #bluesky for a bit, I have to say: the total absence of all those godawful crypto ads that are so ubiquitous on X these days, is such a game changer for me.

Coming in March, a new book from film historian Gary D. Rhodes covering the rise of fringe science pseudo-documentaries in the 1970s, beginning with "Chariots of the Gods," whose smash success launched the paranormal pseudo-documentary genre.

Well, this brings back memories. This exact edition of “The Hobbit” was probably one of the first (if not THE first) book I remember reading by myself from start to finish. Apart from the story itself, illustrations were one the main things that caught my attention. 🧵 #booksky

In other news: if someone tells me again, that #windows is a user-friendly OS “that just works”, and #linux is “weird and unwieldy”, I will laugh in that person’s face. 🧵

Yep. People can whine all they want about “echo chambers” and stuff, but it IS very refreshing not to have to deal with an algorithm that actively seeks to enrage you all the time. Life can be hard and frustrating enough without such bs.

Oooh boy! Several months ago I decided to try out Linux Mint and apart from a couple of hiccups didn’t regret this decision in the slightest. And now I gotta go back to Windows? Cause Unity on Linux is apparently wack? And I need it for work? Guess we’re reinstalling the OS again. Exciting! 🤡

Balatro being nominated in GOTY category at TGA is a bold move, I have to say. I don’t expect it to win, sadly, but I’ll be rooting for it. And for the first time in years there will actually be some incentive for me to watch the ceremony.

A little late to the party, but I just beat #mouthwashing. Need some time to reflect on it, but it was certainly worthwhile. Lo-fi visuals, great atmosphere & writing, and most of all — masterfully realised characters, it was just a treat to experience, even considering how dark and hopeless it is.
