Professor of literacy studies at the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, studying digital literacies, youth media, & writing; lover of beaches & dystopian fiction (vs real dystopias); triple scorpio; she/hers
A5: I wonder if we can have cross-over chats/gatherings that bring #literacies together with other people, conferences, organizations etc (lsp, civics of technologies)? Kind of link @clarabbott.bsky.social's idea about 'bring a friend' but bigger scale?

I agree! This is such an important dimension of these #literacies chats for me!
A3: I always appreciate the opportunity to connect with the younger generation of emerging #literacies scholars —-and I also think these chats make connecting with more senior scholars accessible too
Q3: The #literacies chat began in 2012 with a Derrick Bell quote, "However self-sufficient we may fancy ourselves, we exist only in relation..." What connections have you made with others through the chat?

A3: #literacies chats have opened me up to new scholarship in ways I did not anticipate. I am more of a lurker on social media, but reading those chats, even later, always led me to more scholarship that expanded my thinking. I appreciated the intentionality of the hosts in bringing people together

I wanted to share the good news that I've been promoted to full professor and am beginning a year's sabbatical with a heavenly women's writing retreat in Amorgos. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way! You all made it possible.

Hey, I'm going to do this, and I hope you will too. Not because I think a one day pause will be a devastating blow, but because coordinated action takes practice, and if you don't do the small stuff, you will have a harder time gearing up for the big stuff.
