As a farm kid, public radio was a game-changer for me. Every morning I learned about the world on @npr.org while getting ready for school. Other cultures, languages, musics, realities -- all of it was piped into my young mind, opening and changing me. #protectpublicmedia

Clawing back government funding for public media isn't just an attack on public radio and TV. It's an attack on every American who relies on public media for news and emergency information.

Audiences in smaller communities and rural areas will suffer the most.
What will happen to PBS and NPR stations if the Senate votes to claw back funding? | CNN Business
Public media stations are on the verge of losing the federal funding that has helped keep them on the air for decades. Here’s what that would look like.

I'm doing a thing where I write letters to my fellow Earthlings in different times. It's part of how I'm contending with the extremely distressing present moment. It helps me, somehow. Not because it provides any answers, but maybe because it gives me a different perspective on the questions.

I would like for wealthy people excited for tax cuts to sign a piece of paper acknowledging that every dollar they get in tax breaks is going to be paid for by someone else…either someone not getting healthcare or SNAP or some future person paying higher taxes to pay the interest on our new debt.

I also had a Close Encounters with Swedish Cranes recently! The best. Love this image @gdippe.bsky.social.
I saw some 20 common cranes eating close to the road. I got out of my car and walked behind a wooded stretch. I didn't see them but I could hear their trumpet calls becoming louder and louder. Shortly thereafter they came flying quite close to me.

Yes, I need to stay up on the news. But I also need to watch and listen to the annual return of the Whooper Swans to northern #Sweden. A different sort of news delivery, telling a different sort of story. Like the return of a species from near-extinction, and the return of the Sun to the north.
