I've recently seen that a black cosplayer unfortunately took their own life because of the racism they endured online for their cosplays and it's been weighing on me heavily because I just mentioned recently how it seems like there's been a larger uptick in anti-black racism online.

I got to see an active volcano once. It made me understand why people believe in gods. It's so primal and dangerous and indifferent to you. It's so fast and deadly and beautiful.
Like some kind of grim Omen of things to come, #Hawaii ’s #Kilauea volcano just unleashed a MASSIVE WING SHAPED eruption with lava fountains soaring 1,500+ feet high

Back at the hospital. Another check up. 😭 Achilles tendon is still healing. I’m just glad it was ruptured instead of even a partial tear

Good news: I can walk in the boot without crutches!

Apparently my dad has been watching terrible AI YouTube sci fi videos, which is driving my mom a little batty.

My father is an educated guy. Was Carl Sagan’s strongest soldier. He knows about the evils, but he’s feeling terrible, can hardly play his music, and just wants escape.

Creating a safe space inside us today does not mean we have to completely overhaul years of trauma conditioning all at once. It starts w/ how we talk to ourselves today. What we visualize today. How we breathe today.

Just focus on what you can influence (not "control"), today.

You are more trustworthy than your trauma conditioning wants you to believe. You are more reliable than your trauma conditioning wants you to believe. You are more intelligent than your trauma conditioning wants you to believe.

No matter what it's whispering to you right now.

You don't need to handle this moment of distress "perfectly." Or "elegantly." Or w/ a great attitude. If you're struggling in this moment, all you ever have to do is your best w/ the tools & bandwidth you have right now. That's it.

This is not a performance. Just get through it.

Flashbacks mean there's part of us that sincerely believes now is then, we're as vulnerable as we were then, & something NEEDS to be done about it.

Realistically managing flashbacks starts w/ validating those feelings & fears, & supporting & soothing that activated part of us.

Realistic trauma recovery involves us assuring ourselves, our nervous system, our "parts," our inner child: I believe you; I value you; & you're safe with me.

Over, & over, & over again. Remember that we are counter programming years, decades, of old, toxic messages.

I will never tell you it's supposed to be "easy" to respond to our own frustrating behavior w/ grace- especially not after we've had the sh*t kicked out of us by bullies & abusers for years.

I will tell you it's important enough to keep trying, even when it feels cringe AF.

Post traumatic body memories often spike body dysmorphia, self-harm urges, & disordered eating.

Our body was never "the problem"-- but we've often been conditioned to believe it was, & to respond to feelings or reactions we experience in our body w/ disgust & punishment.

Making the inside of our head & heart a safe place begins w/ our commitment to not attack or shame ourselves for struggling-- which is a tall order, when we've been programmed to believe we "deserve" punishment for "not trying hard enough."

Defying old programming takes courage.

Labels & categories can be useful to help us understand & predict our needs & behavior-- but everyone reading this has run into at last one medical professional or family member who tried to negate our personhood w/ a label.

Use the tool of mental health terminology cautiously.

No survivor woke up today & decided, "I'm going to sabotage the sh*t out of myself today." Even our worst choices are attempts to protect ourselves.

Forgiving ourselves starts w/ acknowledging our own positive intent-- even when things go spectacularly wrong.

Grace over guilt.
