Testing the production pipeline between #AfterEffects and #AffinityDesigner. I'm used to draw with both so for now I think #Affinity will be used for main vector shapes then port them to #AE to continue drawing for proper control of #Animation and #PostProduction.

Past days were stranger : as soon as I decided that #gamedev wasn't for me, a company hired me for... gamedev 😅 But I'm pretty happy with the new life ahead of me.

I decided to walk away from #gamedev for my musical project. Like many times before, as soon as I reach the dev part of the project it just feels like endless debugging and compensating for the lack of tools that I'm used to have in graphic and motion design. I just don't enjoy it.

Spent 2 days making my own custom importer for TexturePacker sprites since their addon only imports AtlasTextures with no 2D PBR support.

Now it imports all spritesheets and creates Sprite2D PackedScenes already populated with PBR maps.

Been reconsidering the scope of the game. Lookdev revealed complexities that I wanted to avoid (translucency cost, radial math, platform limitations...). So I reflected on how I should go about it and went back to the original concept :

Finished re-reading - Hell's Paradise - by Yuji Kaku. What a blast ! God-tier story and art, I love how he weaved the themes of strength and weakness in the plot and character interactions, just lovely. Both subtle and epic ! And the character designs 🤌✨

Goodness #lookdev is rough. A brawl with shaders, mobile performance, sprite masking, fake lighting, scene depth in forward rendering, texture quality and coding radial rotations.

Painful to compare the clean 2D look and the resulting game visual. I need tolerance.

- local version control setup + rethink project folder structure

Been in limbo between #2D and #3D workflows these past days. Doing vector art in #Blender is powerful but I get lost in the technicalities and don't get inspired. 2D is my cozy place, so I'll take it straight to #UnrealEngine and bring in 3D techniques progressively.

#indiedev #wip : So I brought the 2D scene into #Blender and the pipeline #vectordrawing > export texture > cutout each 3D mesh element > instantiate with #geometrynodes lacks flexibility. Iteration isn't good so I'm considering drawing curves directly in Blender but I need to test first.

#wip of porting my #2D #illustration to the magic realm of #3D in #blender : cut-out a texture, made a script to display a radial grid and a #geometrynodes setup to instance stuff in a circle, still some stuff to iron out.

Ok done. This scene was important to get right because it will be used to test the style and animation in the game context.

Next step : bring this to the 3D realm 😬 It wil be tricky to replicate some 2D exclusive effects but it's an interesting challenge !

Been struggling a bit to find the right style between #mosaics and #flat. I have a clear image in mind, the floor is in the right direction for example. I'm trying to nail a 2D / 3D esthetic.

Been cursed by the god of #geometry and perfection. Had to create a #radial grid with 64px increments and snap everything to it. It was already pretty close but I needed to build it for the next illustrations since it's important to the lore.

I'm becoming Alcantara.

Since I can't work on my #indiegame for now, here's another early #screenshot of stuff I was experimenting with. I made a whole tilemap with oriental motifs to build a 2D level in #unrealengine. I still like the look.
