Also, while interesting to guess the plane, the bigger question IMO is if they used this asset because it was based at a foreign country that wants to conceal cooperation. I don't get the perfidy line because folks aren't going to id if a plane is armed. But foreign involvement would b interesting.

One more fact, if transmitting in Mode S, the plane would be transmitting but often not detected on flight trackers.

When the NYT linked that I preemptively dismissed things. Modifying a 737 to fire concealed munitions is just wack (someones mentioned the P8 has lots of mods for pressurization) and if a 737 descended to a boat I think it'd freak folks out.

Or this: fulcrumconceptsllc.com/product/dash.... I assumed it was 427th stuff. They have a sensible reason to hide weapons - host nations don't want to admit to getting support. Using that capability here would lead to outrage. Off bluesky the P8 convo threw me off.

Offline someone also noted that given the NYT cited many official sources that lowers the likelihood it was a misidentified P-8.

@gbrockell.bsky.social @wesleymorgan.bsky.social Wapo says it was USAF plane as part of a civilian looking fleet. They also add it used launch tubes. I was critical of NYT because if it was a P8 that seems like a weird miss.

U.S. plane used in boat strike was made to look like civilian aircraft
Use of the plane prompted legal debate after the operation over whether concealment of its military status amounted to a ruse that violated international law, officials said.

I jumped for 427th because folks waiving at a civilian plane made me think of some sketchy civilian colored turboprop. A 737 swooping down to circle folks seems so out of the ordinary that I’d assume folks would think it’s government.
January 13, 2026 at 7:04 AM
In another forum we were speculating on the type. I thought it was some 427th shit. But someone with more knowledge shared rumor is it’s a P8 and folks just misidentified it + the article was sloppy.

I think people are just bad at using AI like someone googling and citing random websites. It is funny that when I just queried GPT5.2 Thinking it brought up false online claims! The result of the results I get are pretty normal (discussing the impact of the statement, how it intimidates etc)

I think the AI is leaning on stuff like this es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discurs...

Like it’s definitely a mob/fascist thing to say but quote seems inverted.

Sure? But maybe you’re misreading this. My point is to rush forces there to increase the cost of invasion beyond what the admin would accept and to do it using the language of the administration to portray the force posture as supporting Trumps stated fears (while clearly deterring US involvement).

I’ve seen it reported the EU has threatened sanctions but couldn’t find a source. Here’s the source. Also says UK has proposed sending forces. bsky.app/profile/shar...

Time for a European rapid response force to fly in to defend from “Chinese and Russian aggression” and “support US goals”

Basically even before you get to the accusations, the court martial violates the principle of unlawful command influence which is extremely serious. But Steve argues the courts would treat a retired service member like a civilian with the 1A defense here & the charge is textbook 1A violation.

Even if they cared about installing a democracy, Machado called for the government elect and its leader González to be installed. So maybe Trump said this in some setting but was installing Machado was ever an option?
January 5, 2026 at 5:34 AM
Whether or not this is true Machado was not the recognized winner of the 2024 election and said this herself. González is the choice you’d back if you cared about democracy. That the admin isn’t calling for elections or backing González communicates they don’t care about democracy.

Jesus fuck chatting on dating apps. After someone rants about how Trump is evil falls back to say to be clear they haven’t ever voted because Democrats are evil too. Christ.

Sure but ever since CNN held off on broadcasting footage of bombs detonating across Baghdad in 91 for the next mornings news we’ve come to expect …wait a moment

And? The quoted post says the only difference with Democrats is they would have asked for permission first. Democrats aren’t around saying we would have done this too just with an AUMF. What are you talking about?
January 4, 2026 at 12:15 AM
Exactly. I think after exhausting all the promises of the next scandal or court case we realize underneath the truth is elections matter. I get the frustration with apathy because our mistake was voters not realizing electing a tyrant has real costs that need an election to fix.
