all the AI slop out there makes me want the most aggressively analog stories out there. like I want a one-of-a-kind homemade zine someone tucked into a baggie in the hollow of a tree, and I want that zine to include a shitty hand drawn map to a treasure it may or may not take 30 years to find

There are coincidences, and there are trends, and then there's this. This is erasure.

New life goal.
My advice is to become unsummarizeable.
Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

In less fun news the project of doom at the dayjob also came back with revisions. Was really hoping to dodge that, but not surprised. Onward!

Finished my first pass on edits last night, a week after I'd planned but still within tolerance. Second pass to begin this evening (I hope) and then it will be time to type it up!

I heavily debated posting this. I might still take it down, because I've long ago decided that the internet doesn't need my "wisdom." Also, I am bitter and jaded. However, we keep getting repeated que...

I am technically on a social media hiatus on my other platforms, but I'm already only on Bluesky on my computer so I may be here a little bit. We'll see if I can be responsible.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Gotta wonder what the point of all this suffering has been if you're just going to fold. Just kind of curious what the logic is here.

I think we need to stop calling it empathy and go back to calling it decency. It isn't a favour you're doing someone else, it's you proving that you aren't a fucking ghoul

Re: the last few posts - I am a big proponent of mutual aid, but also so many folks in the nonprofit world can stretch dollars in ways you would be surprised by via economies of scale. One isn't per se better than the other, both solutions are needed.

E g. The food bank here in San Diego buys bulk quantities of rice for a fraction of supermarket costs and re-packages it themselves in consumer-sized packages for distribution. Your money there goes much, much further than an in-kind donation. (In kind donations and volunteering are still good tho!)
Hi just so I'm clear.

I wrote "donate to food banks" and do "food runs for mutual aid" because they are different things!

Food banks want your money! they can do more with your money than with stuff.

Mutual aid groups often want stuff! Mine has a food fridge!
Now is a really good time to donate to food banks, and do food runs for mutual aid groups. Also, do menstrual product runs.

100% this. And this is why I support local food programs as much as I can. Because at the end of the day keeping our small local farmers in business and supplementing our neighbors through direct monetary assistance and food assistance is the only way that I can help effectively.
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer
