Update: Skokie Village Board members voted to adopt the ordinance 5-1
The Skokie Village Board will vote later tonight on new regulations for vacation rentals, as Evanston will consider its own limits on short-term rentals later this month.

A community engagement process to help determine what to do with vacant city-owned land at Emerson & Jackson should begin “no later than April, most likely March”, according to Evanston Ald. Bobby Burns.

The Evanston City Council voted Monday to move forward with an ordinance that would put new limits on vacation rentals. If approved, it would cap short-term rentals to 144 units (based on a ratio of 1 short-term rental for every 100 long-term units). Final passage could happen later this month.

Evanston home prices grew nearly 4% within the last 12 months, compared to the previous year, according to data released this week by Zillow.

However, other neighboring towns (Skokie, Wilmette, Highland Park) are seeing faster growth in home values.
