The "fans will look it up online & both they and the work doesn't exist in a vacuum" part reminds me of Magic: the Gathering's approach in the past decade, where they lean on the side of not having to have explainer text as much (text explaining what a keyword on the card does)➡️

Gnosia's been great so far, I can guess who's the Gnosia is (and got it right), but Yuri's reasoning still made sense even if it led to the wrong choice
I assume we're going to have go through a lot of bad ends first, so i hope they keep that up (failed guesses but not because they're dumb)

Gnosia's been great so far, I can guess who's the Gnosia is (and got it right), but Yuri's reasoning still made sense even if it led to the wrong choice

Gnosia's neat, love the detailed BG. the vibe sets up the tone really well. plays up to its strengths (setting takes place on one ship) & considers the environment as its own character (fortunate for the production since they definitely can create it as one huge 3D enviro)

Tonzaburo Rider feels weird- on one hand, the characters' affections & how they're inspired by Rider feels sincere & heartfelt. But once they put on the masks to beat people up, it's like the show is putting on a tongue-in-cheek joke at their expense, then expect us to laugh.

Digimon Beatbreak is really cool, feels like a return to form
I really like Ghost Game and Appli Monsters but they felt like they were doing their own thing. New Adventure didn't feel "cool" enough, but Beatbreak capture the kind of sensibilities that Digimon should have in 2025

I'm sad that CITY the Animation is over, but happy that we got it. It's truly one of a kind. Deserving to be in the running for one of the best animated shows of all time.

parts of it i really liked, other parts were confusing or even downright frustrating for a hero series, but X is such an aurafarmer and his powerset is so cool, give me 24 more episodes of that please

I've been wanting to write about this for a while, but there's something about Umamusume that just feels deeply profound and touching to me, that speaks volumes to how people can love something so much, that they want the thing they love to be remembered.

The way the series is shot feels like a early Heisei to me, particularly how it's going for a very specific vibe in how scenes are lit (though maybe that's just because there's very few outdoor scenes)
Usual first episode quality, but I really hope they keep it up. Pretty cool.
