Meat allergy you are at risk of acquiring simply by living near the woods - Galactose-α-1,3-galactose, "alpha-gal," is a carbohydrate found in almost all mammal cell membranes, and becomes an allergen when bit by some species of ticks. It's f*ckin bad!
Let me clarify and say that again: the RED ALGAE is deadly and will kill me, the BROWN ALGAE and some soychicken nuggies really hits the spot. #food
Breaking news, this just in:

Red algae is the source of #nori, #agar, #carrageenan, and is no-go bad scary dont yuck.

Brown algae is the source of #alginate used to thicken vegan mac n cheese, and is delicious good great yum.

That is all. #allergy #allergies #alphagal #anaphylaxis #food #love

I can't hang with the vegetarians or pescetarians either. They're all, "oh cheese isn't so bad," and "have you tried the salmon?" ...have /you/ tried anaphylaxis?

Listen, even vegans can crave a patty of protein topped with vegetable matter, delicately placed between buns. Burgers are not dietary exclusive. Burgers are consumption-agnostic. Burgers love everyone equally #burgersforall #burgers4all #hunger #craving #cravings #yummy #dinner #lunch #breakfast

And it's not slowing down. Eat More Deer! (Er, not me, but somebody please, eat the deer...)

Yes please! I heard that there was a little bit of traction in Washington regarding improved labeling... how often do animal products or derivative products slip into common products? All the time. FDA says things like <2% of animal-derived stearates don't have to be listed on spices AT ALL. Hate it
I just got an "ask" today about this bill: HR 1178 - the Alpha-gal Allergen Inclusion Act. It would require the FDA to note alpha-gal as a major allergy & include it in food labeling; a good idea for health & safety.

Alas, the "ask" I got was to call Senators; ...

Alpha-gal Allergen Inclusion Act - Alpha-gal Information: Providers
This bill would require that alpha-gal in packaged foods be listed on the label, along with other major food allergens like peanuts, soy, and milk.

It sure isn't the first one! Just the first well documented case, unfortunately. While it can kill people with plain anaphylaxis, there is a strong association with heart problems that needs to be investigated as well. This condition absolutely deserves more attention. #medicine #health #disease

This story about the first death needs to be explained - alpha-gal has absolutely killed people before, but this is the first time the death was extremely well documented: blood was tested post-mortem to confirm antigens, etc. It is true, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this allergy can kill.

Two months ago, West Virginia's Department of Health declared a Health Advisory regarding alpha-gal, stating that in June of 2025, it became a "reportable condition," meaning healthcare providers are REQUIRED to report it to the WV DoH if it shows up in their healthcare settings. Document below.

Heartbreaking news about a preventable death from the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology this past week. "Implications of a fatal anaphylactic reaction occurring 4 hours after eating beef in a young man with IgE antibodies to galactose-α-1,3-galactose" www.jaci-inpractice.org/article/S221...
Implications of a fatal anaphylactic reaction occurring 4 hours after eating beef in a young man with IgE antibodies to galactose-α-1,3-galactose
The recognition of galactose-α-1,3-galactose (alpha-gal) syndrome (AGS) arose from the availability of the assay for IgE to alpha-gal, which in turn arose from the investigation of severe reactions to...

Ok, ok, I need to clarify: This is a plant-based sh*tposting account - the vegans won't have me. Apparently, eating the menstrual cycle of dinosaurs and bagging deer for environmental and revenge purposes has a "low-chill" factor in that demographic... #vegan #notvegan #almostvegan #alphagal #plants

Alpha-gal allergy is not a simple allergy to meat. Allergy to the alpha-gal sugar molecule means that reactions can occur to seaweed, carrageenan (texturizes food,) glycerin (in many foods, soaps, medicine,) stearates and laurates (as in pill binders and soaps,) antivenom (like CroFab and ANAVIP,)

Alpha-galitarianism is eating that avoids galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose, a carbohydrate in most mammal cell membranes. Basically, it's veganism without morality and with a few exceptions, including seaweed (inedible) and dinosaurs (edible). Want to learn more? Stay tuned! #food #alphagal #allergies
