What a heart warming movie, ELEANOR THE GREAT. Definitely check this one out for a stellar character study and remarkable raw emotions that run the gamut. Beautifully done and June Squibb is a delight.

Book Recommendation: @daynadirector.bsky.social has written an incredible and pop-off-the-page novelization of the '60s horror movie SPIDER BABY. What a weirdly awesome story told in an immersive and creepy way. Congrats, Dayna!

Background spider actor was fully on board for this photo. 🕷️

Book Recommendation: Want to time travel back to the summer of '82? This book covers the journeys of 8 genre movies to the screen. Highly, highly recommend!

And if that's not enough, check out the "Multiplex Overthruster" podcast with @okbjgm.bsky.social & @robogeek.bsky.social for tons more! 💛 🎬

Book Recommendation: If you're a fan of SNL, or even if you're not, LORNE was an incredible BTS and biographical read. Bouncing back and forth in time for a full look at how the SNL sausage is made, this book was a feat. Highly recommend.

Then make sure you watch the "SATURDAY NIGHT" movie!

I finished reading James A. Michener's SPACE over the weekend, and I pulled out this quote.

"An age is called Dark not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see it."

Published in 1982.

No writer is a failure until they are dead. Full stop. A career in writing is built over decades. It's built like a house, brick by brick, book by book. Not published yet? Emphasis on YET. Book not selling? It's not selling YET. You're only done when you quit.

And I don't think you're ready to quit

Book Recommendation: We lost a great cinematic master this last week. In honor of David Lynch, I highly recommend his half-autobiography/half-biography. One of the best books I've read on a director and written in a way only Lynch could do.

Book Recommendation: For the last of 2024, I highly recommend this breakdown of "what is scary" and "how does horror work." King breaks down dozens of films, TV shows, and novels to explain structure and what makes good horror. Yes, it's dated, but still relevant! Write on, folks!

Book Recommendation: This was an awesome dive into the romantic lives of the Stevensons & their extraordinary work. The traveled all over the world & seemed to live hundreds of lives apart & together. Their creative work was almost minor in comparison...almost. A lovely read for literature fans.

Book Recommendation: A fascinating & intimate look of the life that made the man. While there are some years that seem to be missing, Pacino delivers a moving, tender, & eye-opening recount on what drove him to be carefree but determined. Get the audiobook, if you can. It's read by Pacino himself.

Book Recommendation: If you love old Hollywood and reading about how movies are made, if you enjoy reading history, and if you want to find out about how Edna Ferber pissed off some Texans, this was a great read. A snapshot into the behind the scenes and impact from this fantastic film.

Has anyone else seen Guy Pearce's "A Christmas Carol"? I love this dark adaptation and wondering who else has seen it!

Book recommendation: I absolutely recommended this to some, but let me recommend to all. This book is a chef's kiss homage and love letter to Shakespeare and his work. And Judi is a spark! Get the audiobook, if you can, she is hysterical reading herself. Her laugh and love of the man is infectious.

Book Recommendation! For anyone who loves reality TV (or doesn't and just loves Hollywood history), this book was awesome. From radio plays to today's... political climate, this was in-depth and behind-the-curtain exposing. Highly recommend.

Book Recommendation Time: If you're a Babs fan or not, this book is in depth & fascinating! An inside look, not only of her life, but also Hollywood/Broadway. Not to mention the music industry. Her resilience & tenacity are infectious, & if you get the audiobook, she reads it herself! 💛

Re-entering the social media world w/ some of my favorite books I read this year.

If you love Hollywood history as much as I do, this is a fantastic read! This covers the MCU from the very beginning through Phase 4 & doesn't hold back! A deep dive into how the Marvel sausage is made.

And so it begins...

I thought Marion Cotillard gave an extraordinary performance in LA VIE EN ROSE.

If you're looking for a masterclass in dialogue and nuance, a must-see is ANATOMY OF A FALL. Incredible performances and a real nail-biting script.

What an amazing movie! Glued from the first minute -- all the way until the 206th minute. A beautiful masterpiece.

If you're into Hollywood history, this bio is incredible. An insight into a mysterious figure in Hollywood lore. I'm a huge fan of THE DEER HUNTER, & this offers some insane insight along w/ just how cruel the Hollywood machine can be. I'm so looking forward to reading Steven Bach's FINAL CUT next.

I haven't been this enamored with a TV show in ages. This was "chef's kiss" amazing. Every episode was a masterclass. As a life-long Poe fan, I was floored. A must-... no. A now-watch.

Catching up on movies that are on my "I'm embarrassed I haven't seen this" list.

THE LAST PICTURE SHOW (1971) What a fantastic film. Really beautiful, & I can only imagine what the previous generation thought when it was released. Reminded me of GIANT (1956) or EAST OF EDEN (1955) but for the 70s.

They aren't ironed, and I will not confess how long these all took me to do, but I will say it is pretty cool to see them finished. I'm working on cross-stitching a star destroyer next.
