PSA for pediatricians - part of the 1 yo well-child check should be counseling on minimizing milk intake. The number of kids I see per week with iron deficiency anemia who are drinking bottles of milk per day is astounding

Watching Prasad and @drglauco.bsky.social battle it out on X is why I will never end up fully leaving that site. Someone’s really gunning for a position with RFK/Oz 🙄. Using humor to combat ignorance and ego is the way to go 👏🏻

Chapter 1

1. Order a peripheral smear before they ask
2. Never get a CBC without a diff
3. Stop the heparin before you call for a HIT consult
4. NEVER order MTHFR
5. Order a reticulocyte count before you consult for anemia

When a patient living with #SickleCell disease hits the ER with pain, they should get pain meds IMMEDIATELY. A hefty first dose of pain meds can result in better outcomes.

They do not need your narrative, suspicion or discrimination.

They need your help. Be a champion for them.
But the reality is that patients with SCD to this day continue to receive care, funding, and support that is less than.

It is UNACCEPTABLE.

And if we don’t talk about it, how are we ever going to fix it?
