You might be surprised to know there's no easy way for clinicians in different NHS orgs to communicate with each other... I certainly was!

The 10 Year Plan talks a big game on shifting care into the community, but this won't be possible without communication💻

Check out my Re:Think blog👇
In the aftermath of the 10 Year Plan, Researcher, @alicesemark.bsky.social, has written about the key feature it seems to have overlooked: communication

🚨NEW REPORT🚨
It's no secret hospitals are at breaking point. A radical rethink is desperately needed.

Our 21 recs outline a new vision – emphasising virtual care, communication tech and care pathway redesign.

Read our new report for our big ideas👇
'Hospital as a service, not a building' is based on the idea that physical hospitals exist only for the most complex, riskiest patients.

Everyone else should be able to access specialist expertise & care from the comfort of their own home or GP surgery.

So how to do this? 🧵

🧠ADHD is widely misunderstood — shrouded in myths, dismissed as a "fad," and often ignored by policymakers.

Yet it's linked to socioeconomic issues, numerous health problems and lower life expectancy.

If Gov is serious about its prevention shift, it must act!

Last week, the PM announced the abolition of NHS England. And at @reformthinktank.bsky.social we were very pleased to hear this!

But now, important questions about who will take over NHS England's responsibilities need to be decided.

In many policy areas, prevention is key. This benefits individuals, society, the economy, public finances and public services.

But the tricky bit is how...

This is why @reformthinktank.bsky.social, with Newton, are launching an exciting new programme, 'Building the preventative state'.
Today we are excited to launch our new programme, "Building the preventative state", in partnership with Newton.

Our Director @charliepickles.bsky.social and Newton Senior Partner Richard Lum joined up to blog about what we're doing and why it matters.

In April last year @reformthinktank.bsky.social called for NHS England to be abolished. This was big, bold, controversial and seen as very unlikely to happen.

Today the PM announce this very thing! 🪇

Thrilled to see our recent public bodies research featured on Page 2 of @thetimes.com today! 📰

& ahead of the PM's speech tomorrow, it is very encouraging to see these indications government will try to properly grip the public bodies landscape.
Brilliant to see the PM going big on quangos this week. And to have our report cited in The Times splash about his speech.

Public bodies are responsible for 60% of day-to-day spending.

Fixing how they’re held accountable & overseen by depts is vital for effective delivery👇

This is v v good news, and exactly what we called for in our recent paper 'Quangocracy'

The current public landscape is generally poorly understood, lacks meaningful oversight and accountability, and actually makes delivering for the country harder in too many cases
Looks clear that Starmer's speech on Thursday will signal move against a 40+ year model of technocratic decision making by arm's length bodies. Cabinet readout discusses "the government taking responsibility for decisions rather than outsourcing them to regulators and bodies".

"It’s clearly unacceptable for sponsorship of bodies which spend billions of pounds to be deprioritised in Whitehall."

My first op-ed!! Published today in @civilserviceworld.bsky.social, on @patrickking.bsky.social and my new report, 'Quangocracy: The future of public bodies' 😎

Read below!
Public bodies make up ~60% of day-to-day gov spending.

Yet the oversight & accountability of these bodies is weak.

Today, @alicesemark.bsky.social wrote in @civilserviceworld.bsky.social on the problems plaguing public bodies, as identified by Reform's new 'Quangocracy' report.

As covered in @thetimes.com. Today we publish ‘Quangocracy’ which argues for overhauling public bodies, to ensure they are fit to deliver.

Is the consensus serotonin imbalances cause depression wrong? What would this mean for the use of antidepressants?

Given the vast prescribing of antidepressants (to 15% of people in England last year!!), these are important Qs

Read about it in my blog this week 👇
A mindboggling 15% of people in England were prescribed antidepressants in 2023-24.

Yet the validity of the serotonin theory of depression, often used to justify their use, is increasingly questioned.

Hospitals are in crisis, overwhelmed by demand. All the while, their role in a prevention-focused system is very unclear.
