Advocates determined to keep US passenger rail on track
Ohio lawmakers haven’t always been supportive of passenger rail. However, advocates are determined to see that proposed plans connecting Ohio’s largest cities, and beyond, stay on track.

Illinois' SB 2111 set up a dedicated fund for intercity rail projects, which is authorized for up to $342 million annually. If Iowa had the same funding per capita, we would have $87 million annually for intercity rail.

Instead we have $0. Imagine what we could do with $87 million.

Numbers are out. Amtrak employs 51 Ohioans and spends millions in the state. And these numbers would grow a lot with new proposed routes. www.allaboardohio.org/posts/the-ec...

The Illinois Senate last night passed significant transit & intercity passenger rail funding, with the House already having passed their version. Now on to Governor Pritzker to become law.
Aside from NY’s Congestion Pricing, this is the best state response to fiscal cliff threats.

@mndot.mn.gov estimates every St Paul-Chicago trip by train, instead of car, saves $296. $88 comes in social benefits-safety, emissions and crash reduction. The rest goes to the rider, due to reduced cost of operating a personal vehicle. Increased rail service is a no-brainer! @hsrail.bsky.social
